Aaand we have our first major instrument cluster pwn at the @GrrCON Car Hacking Village! The Nissan instrument cluster we brought is now reading 1337mi, performed completely over CAN bus 😆

Instrument cluster setups ready for GrrCON's CHV! So far I've got a Ford, Nissan, and Hyundai cluster ready for hacking. Hoping to also set up an Audi cluster if I have time.

I don't have any dumps from this unit so in that video I was fuzzing the bus to wake it up/make sure it works. Unfortunately it then got stuck in french 🇫🇷 apparently you can change the cluster language over CAN!

it's crazy how much twitter compression squashes those pics 😭 but here's the main processor: an ST SPC58, which uses the fancy PowerPC "e200z4" cores/arch. Always a treat running into some PPC stuff in a world where everything is ARM! haha

The latest purchase... X1 U11 gear selector switch. Curious if this will wake up the BCP...? (though I've heard I may need a real keyfob, which would be expensive and a major pain.) I also bricked my auto eth adapaters reflashing them, so I'm not able to use those atm...

this bench is causing me pain - I've never gotten the door open message again after this 😆😭 I'm working on REing the autosar OS that runs on the IDC23's IOC ("I/O Controller") processor, but the CAN functionality is split between it and the main SoC

double bad: it also uses Automotive Ethernet - I *think* only for diagnostics, but I can't confirm that without Wireshark. AND, I need to buy some "ix Ethernet" cables to get my used Rad-Moon 2s up and running. So no wireshark for now, just pain

I wish all of the tools for car hacking weren't so expensive. $200 CAN FD adapter. $700 MSRP auto eth hardware. $50 ix Ethernet cable needed. $3/ea banana jacks, if you want the nice ones. I need to start finding some bugs to report if I want to pay for all of this 🙈

I'm fighting a silly battle with this bench setup - my original goal was just to sniff traffic between BCP and IDC23 to figure out how to wake up the head unit. But now I've gotten nerd sniped by the BCP itself... I've never played with a modern gateway module!

I'm a little worried this is going to end with me spending $1000 on a whole key fob, key antennas, gear selector switch, etc. setup to get the BCP all up and running before I get anywhere with it
