That same relentless mindset is at the heart of Roy Hall's new book, Fight Through It.
The former NFL receiver shares powerful, personal stories of adversity, perseverance, and growth—lessons learned from challenges far greater than a track meet. #FightThroughIt

When you put in the time, eventually it becomes your time!
Not overnight. Not when you’re ready. Not when it’s convenient. But when you’ve spent ENOUGH days doing the work nobody applauds.
I’ve learned that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a few months and underestimate what they can accomplish in a few years.
They quit too early. Doubt themselves too often. Listen to the wrong voices. Get discouraged by slow progress.
Meanwhile, the people who keep showing up, keep learning, keep growing, and keep developing eventually find themselves standing in moments they once prayed for!
Keep preparing.
Keep building.
Keep growing.
Your time is coming!

I coached Roy Hall Jr. in track back in 8th grade. While running the shot put event, this talented sprinter walked up and said, “Coach, let me try one.” #FightThroughIt

Robert De Niro on Donald Trump: “He’s a punk. He’s a dog. He’s a pig. He’s a con. A bullshit artist. A mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Doesn’t do his homework. Doesn’t care. Doesn’t pay his taxes. He’s an idiot. He’s a national disaster. He’s an embarrassment to this country.”

If every child came ready to be taught, teaching would be easy. But some need food. Some need supplies. Some need love. Some need nurturing. Some need patience and some to be seen. Teachers meet them where they are as they enter their classroom, and that is most honorable.

After years of observing great teachers and reading dozens of books and articles on classroom management and emotional triggers, I learned how to diffuse student blowups--most times before they began. This saved my career, as I was ready to quit.

First day back with our admin team. Grateful to be surrounded by brilliant, big-hearted leaders. Ready to build systems that support kids and staff. Not ready to put on make up and real pants.

Inspiration does not need to be a fleeting feeling.
I think an inspired teacher is a teacher who comes to work mindful of their true purpose. And that ultimate purpose is not found in their lesson; it is found in the students they are teaching.
It’s HARD… but so worth it.

Education will always evolve - through new standards, new strategies, and new tools.
But one thing will never change:
Relationships will always matter most.
Lead with compassion.
Extend grace generously.
Offer each student a fresh start.
Every single day.
Because at the heart of great teaching is something profoundly simple:
Connection.

Super excited about this one. The Lifeguard is an illustrated story in the tradition of The Coffee Bean, whose author @Damonwest7 wrote the Foreword. It's heartfelt and impactful for all readers. And the Kindle is FREE during today's special launch. buff.ly/W6V2jj9

I sometimes get nasty messages asking why I’m so supportive of teachers—
and it’s never from educators.
It’s from those outside the profession who have no clue what teachers actually do.
But here’s the truth:
Most teachers are kind, caring, and empathetic. They show up every day for your kids—often putting your child’s needs ahead of their own.
You may not notice it.
But your child feels it.
Don’t ever forget that.

I found that the more I greeted students in the hallway, the more they made eye contact with me… and the more they initiated a greeting with me the next day.
It’s usually not that hard to make connections with kids… but the adults need to be willing to take the first step.
