C++26 pack indexing lets you grab the Nth type from a pack without recursion. no more std::tuple trickery.

If you are using Neovim to write/review C or C++ this plugin could be really handy: github.com/J-Cowsert/classla… Just hover over a type or variable, press a key and see exactly how Clang lays it out in memory: offsets, padding, alignment etc. in a floating window.

The Pimpl pattern: heap allocate your implementation, write a copy constructor, write a move constructor, write a destructor, write copy assignment, write move assignment C++26: std::indirect<Impl> impl_; Done. The compiler generates everything 🧵👇

Unfortunately. If the rank is less than the rank of int, there’s a promotion to either int or unsigned int. It’s a real mess.

I'm getting very close to publication of my latest book: The Programming Puzzles Big Book (Fun for ages 7-99)! leanpub.com/programming_puzz… This is your last chance to get it for the pre-release price of only $4.99 and help me find any remaining bugs. This is 400 pages of puzzles!

Posted a new video about std::chrono which provides an overview of what functionality was added in C++11, C++17, and C++20. Watch to find out how much of chrono your compiler supports. We were pretty surprised at what we discovered. #cplusplus youtube.com/watch?v=63GKRVb8…

functions pointers classes/objects (encapsulation+invariants) inheritance+OO patterns STL design philosophy monads other functional patterns Pretty much in that order. Each of these concepts unlocked a new way of thinking for me.

VIM users might find this CMake integration plugin useful: github.com/cdelledonne/vim-c… - build window - populates quickfix list with build errors - easy cmake config switching - autocompletion for targets, configurations, tests - events for build success/failure etc.

I'm toying with making a list of C++ Tricks, Tips and Tidbits. They are intended for like one of those pop up "did you know?" dialog boxes. github.com/lefticus/lefticus… Add some via comment or PR if you are interested!

Precisely - My point was just that the better (safer) equivalent to the “by value“-version would be the “const&” version. No need to take something by non-const ref if it’s not absolutely necessary.

you meant “const std::string&“ or “const auto&” …. right? Emphasis on “const”

Do you know of any C++ community in the Rhein-Main area? I don’t, but I haven’t looked since the pandemic. There used to be a (rather short-lived) C++ meetup in Wiesbaden.
