⚠️The truth is synthetic vitamins are pharmaceutical drugs by every meaningful definition of the word drug... They are isolated chemical compounds, manufactured, standardized, dosed, and taken to create a physiological effect in the body. That is a drug... The supplement industry hates that framing because it ruins the costume. Put the same logic behind a pharmacy counter and everyone recognizes it. Put it in a white bottle with a green leaf on the label and suddenly people call it “natural health.” Thats the trick... Synthetic ascorbic acid is not an orange. Folic acid is not food folate. Synthetic D3 is not sunlight. A capsule full of isolated compounds is not nourishment just because it was sold beside herbal tea instead of prescription medication. This is where a lot of “natural health” people get played. They think they escaped Big Pharma because they stopped taking prescriptions and started taking vitamins. But Big Vitamin was never some ancient healing tradition standing outside the pharmaceutical machine. It came through the same controlling interests and industrial chemistry, food-fortification, laboratory-isolation and mass-production worldview that built the modern drug model in the first place. I’ve written about that history before with receipts, and I’ll probably do an updated version soon, because once you trace where this industry actually came from, the “natural alternative” story starts looking very thin. A lot of supplementation is not some grand escape from Big Pharma. In many cases it is the same basic way of thinking with nicer packaging. The body is reduced to missing chemicals. Nature is reduced to isolated compounds. Health becomes correcting numbers, raising markers, filling gaps, and swallowing the right inputs. Different aisle. Same assumption. The body is deficient. The product is the answer. That is pharmaceutical logic. And it does not become natural just because the marketing department used a fancy label with earth tones and images of fruits. I am not saying every supplement is useless. Sometimes fragments can be used. But do not confuse fragments with food. Food arrives as a biological whole. Structure, context, cofactors, minerals, fats, water, tissue, soil, sunlight, season and terrain all matter in ways reductionist chemistry still pretends it can fully replace. A synthetic vitamin is one chopped-off piece. Sometimes useful. Often over-worshipped. Almost never equivalent to the living system it was extracted, copied, isolated or imitated from. Big Pharma did not disappear when people walked into the supplement aisle. It just learned to speak wellness. And a lot of people applauded because the bottle looked less medical...
