As entrepreneurs, we often default to “I’ll just learn how to fill this gap/learn this skill on my own.” This is a more risky solution than it first appears. We underestimate just how long it takes to amass these skills and experiences. 👇

We forget just how entrenched our existing personality is. As a startup, given speed is our greatest competitive advantage vs. incumbents, the opportunity cost of taking this time is immense.

Once you decide which type of solution is optimal for the gap (FTE, freelance, agency, etc.), actually identifying the true talent among the ocean of people who purport to be excellent is really hard and time-consuming. How to identify someone you should work with: (1/3) 👇

Part 1: They have a documented methodology for how they achieve results, and they are chomping at the bit to test it again and refine it. Part 2: They have a broad range of knowledge related to their expertise as well as a clearly stated specialization (2/3) 👇

Part 3: They can clearly communicate the proper mindset one must be in to do their kind of work well. Part 4: They proudly rep their past employers/clients and publicize their past wins with them. (3/3)

The best and fastest way for an #entrepreneur to learn a skill and acquire valuable experience is to hire a specialist who exhibits that skill and work WITH them on a relevant project. If you are resolute in learning another core business skill, done-with-you >>> DFY or DIY.

Who “is currently” filling a gap is not the same as who is a “Perfect Fit” to fill the gap. We should be aiming to fill every gap with Perfect Fits only. Perfect fits “Get it, Want it, and have the capacity (physically, emotionally, spiritually, and time-wise) to fill the gap.
Remember: Your process will never be “perfect.” Continuing to iterate and develop your process to appeal to present-day hires is key to remaining competitive in today’s job market. #jobhunt #hiringprocess
When identifying gaps in your company, don’t overestimate the skills, experiences and personalities of any existing team members including yourself. Park your ego. Be intellectually honest. #businessanalyst #businessadvice

Most teams lack a clear understanding of the TYPES of existing gaps. They understand the idea of skill gaps (lacking a specific skill) or industry-experience gaps, but they overlook more nuanced gaps like target-customer experience, product-type experience, & founder experience.
Redefine your “Team” to be much more broad. It is not just your employees and your #freelancers. It is the intersection of the people you should listen to and the people willing to help you. #communication #peoplesskill
📢 For our #freelancer friends out there… if you’ve qualified a #prospect, completed discovery, and decided you want to work with them… schedule the next sales call before the current one is over.🔝 #salescall

5. What is the offer? 6. Why are you different? 7. What benefits does your solution offer? Try them out and see how they help you focus your brand. 😉(3/3) #brandingtips #brandmanagement #brandbuilding

Overwhelmed by the gaps on your team? Don't be! The solutions for filling them are easier and less expensive than you think. #mondaymotivation #teammotivation #ceomindset
Figuring out where you need help is hard, because: 1) It's hard to identify where you have gaps on your team, 2) It's hard to prioritize which gaps are most important to fill, 3) Assuming you get those first two right, it's still hard to fill those gaps in the right way

Many founders and team members at tech companies are biased against identifying their own personal gaps. All core teams have gaps, but people generally don't like admitting that they lack something, so these gaps often go unrecognized and thus unfilled. #founders #techcompanies
