Thanks @wilreynolds for making us think of this (via his talk at CMWorld in Denver this week) In today's AI bot / social spam world, a real measure of content *quality* is: Traffic from human CURATED sources (e.g. MSTeams, newsletters, etc). @growandconvert doing well! 💪

One major issue I see with much of the GEO research out there is that it doesn't acknowledge that searches for consumer products are going to be very different from searches for B2B products/service. The citation sources for each are complely different.

3rd party mentions for GEO are not a strategy. They’re a tactic that needs to sit within a larger strategy. People who say that 3rd party mentions are what drive brand recommendations in AI are missing the bigger picture. cont'd below 👇

Folks that think "AI citation rate" is a KPI for AEO/GEO, please look at this...we are mentioned as a brand in ChatGPT for "What are the best content marketing agencies I should consider for my brand?" but not cited. But for 2 other very similar prompts on Perplexity, we are cited but not mentioned. On AIO it's a mix. Repeat after me: CITATIONS DO NOT EQUAL BRAND MENTIONS! They are not the same thing. You can get mentioned without being cited and vice versa. (Also: Use an AI visibility tool that separates the two for every prompt clearly. Traqer.ai is one that does)

Everyone's talking about tactics like adding LLMS.TXT, FAQs, rewriting headings as questions... those things aren't a GEO strategy and they don't influence whether LLMs will recommend you. Here's our research into what actually drives brand recommendations in LLMs.
How to get your brand recommended by LLMs (webinar) We share: - 2 main ways you can influence LLMs - Our GEO prioritization pyramid (how to allocate resources) - What kind of content that you should be producing - The differences between SEO content and GEO content And more

Getting cited by AI doesn't mean you're influencing the answer. Most people don't know the difference. The New Rules for Getting Recommended by AI 👇 New episode w/ @bernardjhuang of @clearscope and @deveshkhanal

We just published the strategy we're using to get our clients on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and other LLMs. We call it *Prioritized GEO*. Why? Because we think GEO strategies are suffering from a major priorities problem. Everyone is throwing around random GEO tactics online: add FAQs! Word your headers as questions! Create an LLMs.txt! But most of those are completely unproven, with some even proven to not work (llms.txt for example literally does nothing). But more importantly, they shouldn't be your first priority! The first and most important step is to get LLMs to know your brand and products. Second they need to know when and for whom you are a good fit. The way to do this is by having your brand (1) show up in traditional SEO search and (2) provide the narrative and detials that tell LLMs when and for whom you are a good fit. Why traditional SEO? Because LLMs "ground" or supplement their responses with web search. Old fashioned Google search. They do this in particular when asked about product or brand recommendations, which really are the only prompts and topics that have a chance of sending you customers. You have two ways to do that: 1. Get your own content ranking. 2. Get listed in other content that's ranking. Those are the foundation -- Tier 1 and Tier 2 -- of our GEO Priorities Pyramid below. You can learn more about this pyramid, why your own content is Tier 1 and thus the most important, the rest of our (@growandconvert's) GEO strategy, and see examples of our clients AI search visibility in our new article, linked in the comments.

Most marketers are quick to point the finger at ChatGPT — “people aren’t Googling anymore.” But the data tells a different story. In our latest analysis, we found the real culprit behind the SEO traffic decline.

We started working with a client that had low conversion rates from their blog. After reviewing their ranking blog posts, we realized the issue stemmed from the writing inside the pieces. Here's how we improved conversion rates by 66-900% per article. growandconvert.com/conversio…
