Today I'm launching Jotboard on Uneed, I'd be really grateful of your support ๐
uneed.best/tool/jotboard
Also thanks @T_Zahil for creating such an awesome alternative to ProductHunt ๐
jotboard.co is now live and ready to import your boards from Google Jamboard!
I've been rubbish at posting here on ๐ recently, I've been busy building and also marketing a bit more on Reddit.
Going to launch on ProductHunt soon โ

Day 21/30 before I ship Jotboard ๐ฅ๏ธ
I've been rubbish with my daily updates on Jotboard, because I've been enjoying the sun in Greece! โ๏ธ
I'll continue building when I get back this week and I'm still determined to release on day 30 (even if beta)

Day 9/30 before releasing Jotboard ๐
Today I'm looking at the share functionality. Pretty simple stuff, there's a modal to change permissions and then I use @nextjs RSC to check if someone has permission before serving the page!
I update the permissions using server actions, so I don't need to explicitly create any API routes ๐

I'll be opening up spots for early testers later in the week, so DM me if you want to try it out
Otherwise, sign up to the waitlist at jotboard.co ๐

Day 8/30
No video today, I'm spending the day finding and talking to potential customers to work out what their pain points are
There are a lot of competitors in the virtual whiteboard space and I want to be really clear on my positioning within the market
#buildinpublic
I'll be opening up early access soon so if anyone wants to try out Jotboard then send me a DM ๐
Or if you want to wait until the release (only 21 more days!) then sign up to the waitlist at jotboard.co

I missed yesterday ๐ฌ and I found a bug ๐
Today I'm testing the pen functionality, I ended up using react-konva with Simplify.js for drawing and sending the lines between clients
If anyone wants to see my code to help me find my bug, please let me know!

Quick update today because it's the weekend.. does anyone else try to avoid working on side projects at the weekend?
I've been testing the dragging and resizing of the sticky notes, which uses react-draggable and react-resizable.
Both libraries are documented well and it didn't take long to set them up, which makes my life easier!

Day 4/30 before I release Jotboard ๐
REAL-TIME COLLABORATION
My favourite part to build so far! I'm using @partykit_io which makes it super easy to handle websockets and send messages between clients.
I only send the state that's changed and then reconcile the board state on each client, and it backs up regularly from PartyKit state to my Firestore database.

It's database time! I'm using @Firebase's noSQL database called Firestore
I've added some nice TypeScript functions on top of Firestore so that my queries are all typed ๐ฅ
It uses @nextjs server actions for creating/updating/deleting, alongside the Firebase authentication I covered in the last video to make sure users can't do something they shouldn't ๐
#buildinpublic #indiehackers
As always, DM me if you have any questions about how I'm building Jotboard, or if you want early access!
And sign up to the waitlist at jotboard.co
Why can I never get Open Graph images working โ ๏ธ
I'm using @nextjs opengraph-image.png and I can see the right meta tags, but it isn't showing up in X? Anyone have any ideas?

Authentication! I'm using @nextjs with @Firebase for my database and authentication.
There's a library called next-firebase-auth-edge which lets me use Firebase authentication in both Edge Functions and Serverless Functions.
Only took 10 mins to set up and accessing the user is as simple as calling a hook.
What do you use for authentication?

Day 1/30
I'm rubbish at shipping ๐ I'm good at building but awful at getting the product in the hands of users and marketing!
So I've set myself a challenge... release a new product within the next 30 days.
The product is called Jotboard and it's a collaborative whiteboard app.
I've built some basic features so far which I'll be sharing, and I'll be building lots more in the next 30 days.
Follow along for the journey!

I'm looking for early testers for Jotboard! If you're interested then send me a DM, or you can sign up for the waitlist at jotboard.co
