Been using Cursor CLI for 2 days, and honestly, it's Claude Code level with access to multiple models. If you think of CLI agent tools as a spectrum, it sits somewhere between Claude Code and OpenCode

Spent the week planting myself in the Cursor SF office meeting as much of the team as possible. Previously chatted tons with the founders during acquisition, but not much with the broader team.
Across dozens of coffee walks and impromptu meetings, I was blown away by the pace, intensity, and kindheartedness of everyone there. This team is insane in the best way. There’s something incredibly special happening at Cursor right now - excited to put my full weight into the bigger push!
I’m confident there won’t be winner take all effects on coding agents and models. Just as some engineers have always used Vim, and others Intelij - some engineers will use Claude, others Codex, others some open source agent.
Cursor has such a great position as an agnostic app layer with a GUI powerful enough to coordinate across all the underlying different models. If Gemini and Codex trade places 5 times this year as top models, I don’t want to have to swap my coding environment 5 times.

I use Claude Code within Cursor, so Cursor is the IDE and Claude Code is the coding agent.
One of the primary benefits of Cursor (for me) is that it supports multiple coding agents. I fully expect OpenAI’s Codex to catch up or be better than Claude Code on some dimensions, and the same for the Gemini / xAI coding agents.
My hope for the future is that Cursor can be used to manage a diverse fleet of agents. This would let me route different tasks to whichever agent is strongest for that particular problem, from a unified interface.
tldr if we believe that there won’t be one supreme coding agent that’s better than the others on every dimension, there is a lot of value in a neutral third party IDE. Similar to the role OpenRouter and others of its ilk play for LLM APIs.

extremely bullish on an open standard for recording _how_ and _why_ code was generated, not just the end state of the code.
I love this standard because its not prescriptive on where to store the data - just a format for interop
We're proposing an open standard for tracing agent conversations to the code they generate. It's interoperable with any coding agent or interface.
