Must be kidding me. This is an enormous amount of water and power for a residential home. For some context, the house must be 10k sq feet plus with non stop AC and pool / hot tub heating. The water use is even more incredible at about 65,000 gallons/month. Has to be huge pool(s) and acres of irrigation. This NOT how most in LA live.
One of my neighbor's latest bill from LADWP. $8,506. That's more than 4X the average American's mortgage payment. Just for waste, water, and electricity. What do you get for that money? They drain your reservoirs for 2 straight fire seasons and let your town burn down. Oh, and then their water mains burst every day and flood your streets. Oh, and they forget to shut off the power during a wildfire and cause more spot fires around your neighborhood. Don't let communists run your city, folks.

As the level of play and stakes increase in college and professional sports, the refereeing and umpiring performances have to elevate as well. And it simply isn’t happening. 100% fixable. Don’t understand how this is not prioritized.

#LongLA dodged a huge ass bullet here.
My sources are telling me Talarico is in a mental health facility. His campaign has stopped actively planning events in the vital homestretch of the campaign. If this is true, this is actually a time to pray for Talarico. We should, of course, savagely mock his smug, awful campaign advisors, by all means...and while yes, of course, this would be disqualifying for Talarico's aspirations to be a Texas Senator, we must hold empathy for anyone undergoing crisis. Campaigns are brutal, and not everybody is cut out for it. You need very thick skin. As much as I don't want Talarico anywhere near government, I also don't want wish him harm, and no political office is worth having a breakdown. His awful advisors are at fault for this. They pushed him to be something he isn't, and it didn't work. I'm praying that this isn't true, and he's OK. You want to win these fights on the battlefield of ideas, not the minefield of poor health.

Important if true. Note it is true. ā€œI’ve got a number of friends and entrepreneurs that moved out there and Vegas is just a chapter until they all move back to CAā€

That’s part of the Lake Las Vegas area…and no one wants to live out there… But in terms of Vegas in general, I think a lot of people are realizing that no income tax isn’t worth the lifestyle and environment that it comes with. I’ve got a number of friends and entrepreneurs that moved out there and Vegas is just a chapter until they all move back to CA. That’s very anecdotal but I think could be the trend we see.

Somewhat staggering. Between 2019-20 and 2024-25, LAUSD non-charter enrollment fell 16%, from 440,365 to 369,830 students, while the district's number of full-time-equivalent positions increased 6.3%, from 60,344 to 64,148. My guess is LAUSD turbo charged hiring during the pandemic and then never reduced those roles when things sort of went back to normal.

Imagine what would prices would be if everyone in CA didn’t move Austin and Miami to avoid taxes and the socialists by the sea. Prices would have soared >1000%. Reality is anyone whom has shorted the golden state over the medium and long term has been on the wrong side of the trade. Now is no exception.
California home prices have soared since 1984, tripling in some markets trib.al/b3hCI9M

Fun facts. One time ULA mansion tax alone on this purchase is $7.2M (earmarked for housing and homelessness in the City of LA). Annual property taxes likely exceed $1.5M/year. I would love to see how he has figured out a way to navigate the tax burden or is really like the rest of us and pays his fair share.

All true. Interesting thought. Are they any VC/early stage investors with >$100M with headquarters south of Playa Vista? I wonder why.
The proximate causes of El Segundo’s explosion: SpaceX/Elon, a century of aerospace talent, machine shops and suppliers, Primes, abundant industrial real estate, Pentagon demand, money moving back into atoms, and an increasingly dense community of mission-driven founders. Eventually the ecosystem became self-reinforcing.
