This session was my favorite of the meeting. #meded2026. Real clinical spaces with matching tech solutions – at Ethiopia
Simulation, AI, POCUS, and XR are no longer future ideas in medical education. They are tools that can help prepare learners earlier, better, and safer.
As speakers keep exploring how African medical schools can use emerging technologies to strengthen clinical training and improve patient care, at #MedEdAfrica2026, The discussion shows that meaningful innovation does not always require expensive equipment. It can start with low-cost simulation tools, mobile simulation carts, 360-degree learning, local faculty development, and strong institutional ownership.
The discussion showed that meaningful innovation does not always require expensive equipment. It can start with low-cost simulation tools, mobile simulation carts, 360-degree learning, local faculty development, and strong institutional ownership.
The technology that our medical education needs must be practical, locally relevant, and built around Africa’s realities.
By investing in educators, partnerships, and continuous improvement, medical schools can prepare future-ready health professionals for stronger health systems across Africa.

Important conversations about the leadership of Health professionals education and the impact we need. The student leader of the Ethiopian Medical Students Association made an important contribution. – at Ethiopia
As Day 3 of #MedEdAfrica2026 begins, join us live for two important plenary conversations.
The morning opens with Leadership and Governance for Human Resources for Health in Africa, followed by a timely discussion on Who Pays to Train Africa’s Doctors? Financing Medical Schools in an Era of Scarcity.
These conversations are deeply connected. Africa cannot build a stronger health workforce without strong governance, and medical schools cannot expand quality training without sustainable financing.
