The word ablation will jump from obscurity to ubiquity stat.
It originally referred to brain surgeries that destroy tissue (Latin root means “carried away”).
In the AI context, it refers to modifying open model weights to remove safeguards.
Not good. Impossible to stop.

If you were young in 2001, or weren’t even born yet, it can be hard to imagine what 9/11 felt like. The shock of that beautiful, cloudless morning. The heartbreak of the families whose loved ones were taken with such swiftness and cruelty. The realization that the forces of malevolence and violence were closer, and the future less certain, than we knew.
But in the days that followed, we felt something else, too. Pride in the rescue workers who had rushed to the scene, and the passengers who had stormed the cockpit. Admiration for the men and women who left behind lives of comfort to serve their country. A deep resolve that nothing would break the will of a truly United States of America.
Today Michelle and I are remembering those we lost that day, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the wars that followed. We pray for their families. And we hope Americans everywhere remember the true lesson of 9/11: that we can survive even our darkest days as long as we move forward as one nation and one people.

This @BillSimmons take looking smart with the Alcaraz vs Shelton match looking to start near 11pm because of how long the earlier ones went
NEW: OpenAI gives first detailed debrief of the Hugging Face incident at Black Hat conference
In a session I attended today at Black Hat, OpenAI's Eric Wallace and Michael Dalton said the company is "consciously slowing down research to enhance security" while a full technical postmortem is still underway.
* OpenAI traced the roots of the attack back to May 7, during training of an unreleased frontier model—not July.
* The most surprising detail: AI agents accidentally created an internal message board, allowing separate evaluation runs to share exploits, discoveries and work assignments.
* OpenAI said it shut the message board down after an internal security incident—only for the agents to independently recreate it days later using a different communication method.
* OpenAI called the incident a "watershed moment" for AI security and warned that "agent orchestrated fully automated offensive attacks are real now."
* The company also said it is "consciously slowing down research to enhance security" while overhauling its defenses.

Great interview with @clairevo about building @chatprd -- really appreciated this statement of values and building a business that serves her life. This is so missing from the tech discourse youtu.be/r5kF6RH3dKM?t=1550
We are at the stage of climate change where the wildfire smoke is blunting the forecasted heat wave. 😬

The National Weather Service has issued authorization to eat ice cream straight from the tub.
Grew up near Centennial Park & this is so frustrating. The article gets the real fight:
"The town’s lawsuit contends that neither the parking lot nor the forestland should have been designated as surplus..."
"The town also contends that 180 units are far too many for the site"
It is a giant parking lot I've never seen full. I used to practice driving there because there was so much empty space. Now the state can't build housing on land that it already owns 😤

Within one 24 hour period, Trump:
- got out of a $100 million IRS fine
- secured "immunity" from all future tax investigations for his family and friends
- created a $1.8 billion slush fund for lawbreaking supporters
- was reported for likely insider trading worth nearly $1 billion
All of the obvious things to say about this are true. It's bad. Nobody even tries to defend it. The closest thing to a defense you get is something about how "but Democrats suck" and "woke was also bad," which is not a defense, but rather a kind of moral blank check made out to the administration to give them the right to do anything.
But what I'm most curious about is whether this sort of lurid corruption creates a countermovement that successfully returns government to rule of law or whether it's establishing a norm of executive imperialism that every future administration will use to achieve its ends, which can always be justified by the moral blank check of "the other side is worse, so let us do whatever we want."
