Xabi Alonso's football is apathy inducing. It's so nondescript.
It's like what you'd see if a team had no coach. And this is with full weeks of training.
The performance was a disgrace. Ridiculous team selection, tactics, substitutions, set-pieces and physical intensity.
Even getting one of those elements spot-on and you beat this Spurs side.

So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?
Elon Musk has cemented his record as the largest individual political donor in modern American history.

Born in the South African city of Durban in 1941, this daughter of a bus driver was put through university thanks to donations from fellow members of the local Indian community.
Graduating with a law degree, Ms Pillay became the first woman to establish a legal practice in South Africa's Natal province.
"I had no choice," she told the BBC. "No law firm would employ me because they said they could not have white employees taking instructions from a coloured person."
"I was representing men who were imprisoned on Robben Island along with Mandela," she said.
"They had no right to legal representation or even to know the rules of the prison. I was told by their wives just how bad the conditions were."
A successful appeal by Ms Pillay to the provincial court gave Nelson Mandela and his fellow inmates some very basic legal rights. Not surprisingly she soon found herself under constant surveillance from the security police.

It doesn't apply very often, but it did apply to that Chelsea generation:
They weren't willing to tolerate a rubbish coach as it harmed the club's ambitions.
Many squads are willing to down tools for weeks to get a coach sacked.
These players took control instead.
Premier League managers are regularly sacked. In fact, they are sacked more often than ever before; 11 departed their clubs during the 2025-26 season. This is routinely attributed to a lack of patience on behalf of the clubs. But what if clubs aren’t getting the appointments right in the first place?
Managers are basically sacked for one of two reasons. Either results are unacceptable, or they ‘lose the dressing room’. The second factor seems increasingly common, and players are, in turn, accused of downing tools.
The fear of ‘player power’ remains the biggest misnomer in football. Football is about footballers.
So what would change if players were given control of appointing their manager?
