I hear this from Turks constantly. When reminded that Anatolian Greeks were massacred or forcibly converted to Islam, they claim: “If that happened, you wouldn’t exist.” Well, we are the erased—descendants of Islamized Anatolian Greeks whose faith, language, and identity were unwritten by centuries of persecution at the hands of Turkish Islam. When reminded of the Ottoman occupation of the Balkans, they argue: “If we were intolerant, why are the Balkans still Christian and speaking their own languages?” Simple: because those nations fought fierce wars of independence against the Ottoman Turks. If they hadn’t, they’d be speaking Turkish and practicing Islam today. Anatolian Greeks, however, lost everything—their land, their independence, and their freedom—to the brutal rise of Turkish-Islamic hegemony. This is not just a difference of opinion; it’s a total divergence in thought. The Islamic mind utilizes a framework of “reasoning” that fundamentally rejects basic, standard logic.
Nothing is more insolent than Muslims telling Christians and other minorities in the Middle East and North Africa that their continued existence is evidence of Islamic tolerance, and that if Islam had not been tolerant toward minorities, they would not be alive today. An invader conquers your land, forcibly converts your ancestors, allows a remnant to survive in submission under Islamic supremacy, and then expects their descendants to be grateful for having been permitted to exist.

Civilized citizens strive to build up communities and schools. Those rioting want only to tear France down. Call it what it is: an ethnic and religious war on French society. Rioting to destroy France isn't activism; it's savagery.

Nuovo scontro Erdogan 🇹🇷 vs Unione Europea 🇪🇺, Grecia 🇬🇷, Cipro 🇨🇾, Israele 🇮🇱. No, vero?

Turkey has become a graveyard of dying languages. Its Greek, Armenian, Aramaic/Assyrian/Syriac, Laz, Ladino, and other languages risk extinction. The fate of these communities mirrors the fate of their languages. Jews, Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, and other non-Turkish citizens of Turkey did not simply choose to stop speaking their native languages. Instead, most were massacred, deported, or forced to leave their ancestral homelands. And those who remained in the country were subjected to immense pressure to cease speaking their languages. The quiet extinguishing of Anatolia’s indigenous tongues is no natural evolution — it is state-driven erasure. In Anatolia, native voices are not merely fading into the past; they are systematically silenced. My latest:

Some scholars argue that Griko descends, at least partly, from the Greek spoken in southern Italy since antiquity (i.e. before Christ). If so, it would represent an extraordinary linguistic survival stretching back more than 2,000 years. 4/n

Over the following centuries, Italian and local Romance dialects inevitably replaced Greek. The old Greek-speaking zone shrank into isolated pockets. Today Griko survives in only a small number of communities, surrounded entirely by Italian-speaking territory. /END

What is certain is that Greek remained widespread in parts of southern Italy astonishingly late. Medieval accounts describe Greek-speaking communities across Calabria and Apulia, while Greek religious traditions persisted long after Roman rule had disappeared. 5/n

Today, pockets of Greek speech survive in two places: Salento in Apulia and parts of southern Calabria. The cultural traditions also remain strong. In Salento, the cluster of villages is still known as Grecìa Salentina. 3/n

Greek settlers began founding colonies in southern Italy from the 8th century BC. Cities such as Taras, Sybaris and Croton became part of a region the Romans later called Magna Graecia: “Greater Greece”. Greek culture remained deeply rooted there for centuries. 2/n

Funny how the ancient landmarks in South Italy are Greek, but in today's Turkey they are called Roman or Luwian or Hittite but NEVER Greek.
In a handful of villages in southern Italy, people still speak what may be the last surviving linguistic descendant of "Magna Graecia", the ancient, Classical Greek world that once covered much of southern Italy. The language, unsurprisingly, is called Griko (Γκρίκο). 1/n

Before the 7th-century Islamic invasions, regions from Central Asia to the Indian subcontinent thrived as a vibrant, multi-faith tapestry. Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, Zoroastrians, Jews, Manichaeans and other faiths coexisted in a deeply multicultural world. However, waves of violent invasions and forced conversions—primarily by Arab and Turkic jihadists—dismantled this pluralistic world. Through centuries of systemic Islamization, this once-diverse spiritual landscape was wiped away, tremendously altering the cultural heritage of Asia. Please read my latest on how Islam erased Buddhist Asia:
Saudi Arabia sentenced a Hindu man to death for insulting Islam, the same ideology that did not merely insult, but erased entire civilizations across Asia. Read “How Islam Erased Buddhist Asia” by @bulutuzay_. idicenter.org/article/how-is…

21 Arab states exist today, almost all built on lands conquered and colonized by Arab invasions. (The Arab League has 22 member states, one of which is the “State of Palestine.”) Why do Palestinian-Arabs get a 22nd Arab state, while the indigenous, stateless, and persecuted Assyrians face extinction in their Mesopotamian homeland? Where are the marches for Assyria? Where is the justice for the stateless?
The Patriarch of the Chaldean Church visits a seminary in Iraq. The Assyro-Chaldeans, descending from The Church of The East, are amongst the most forgotten Christian nations in the world. Decimated by the Iraq War & ISIS, they face an ongoing emigration crisis & need our help if they are going to persist in their homeland. On the current trajectory, there won't be any in Iraq on a 20-30 year timeline, and with them gone, the odds of the survival of Aramaic drop to near-zero. Languages do not survive outside of ancestral land--outside of blood & soil. I pray to see the day that Christendom is united in its desire to support its Eastern flock, not just with prayer but with policy.
