The banks are online, the transactions are in the cloud. Manufacturing is less than 1/10th of their economy. This isn’t 1926.
This is what happens when you never update your phrasing because you’re just obsessed with LARPing instead of critically thinking.

I've said it before but I will never not find it supremely pathetic how much time Lembit Opik spends on here shilling for Russian warmongering when his own parents fled to the UK to escape Russian imperialism in Estonia.

Much punchier accusations from Sir Malcolm Rifkind - a former defence and foreign secretary:
"I choose my words very carefully. I think this week Donald Trump has shown himself as a person to be repulsive; as a President of the United States to be a disgrace to his own people as well as to his international responsibilities.
"We all know his actual reasons for this are a grubby attempt to win a few more votes in the midterms by trying to get oil prices down.
"In order to achieve that, he has not only betrayed Ukraine in the middle of a war, fighting for its very existence, but he is also directly - not indirectly - directly responsible for the deaths of many Ukrainians who will not now be protected by the attempts that have been successfully made using intelligence provided indirectly by the United States."

Staggering that Trump just does not get this. Trump is making the US less secure.

Streeting: Britain has gone from training the Ukrainians to being trained by the Ukrainians.
Avengers Lab, Ukraine's military AI platform, turns front-line combat data into targeting algorithms. The UK now has access to this data gold mine. British firms build AI with it. 2/

For all the cynical pandering, I think there is an ideological core here. Vance is advancing a worldview in which the world is ruled by strongmen who espouse a "national interest" completely disconnected from liberty or self-government. It's a view articulated in this 2017 paean to Putin by NatCon intellectual Christopher Caldwell, who argues that while Putin is a terrible leader by American standards, he's an excellent one by "traditional" (i.e. pre-liberal democracy) standards of enhancing national power. imprimis.hillsdale.edu/how-t…
Vance: "I've never met Putin in person. I've spoken to him on the phone. He was calmer than you might expect. The American media has a stereotype of him. He's very deliberate and measured in his words.
I think, at his core, he's someone who cares about Russia's interests as he sees them. One reason he respects the President is that he recognizes the President cares about the interests of the American people."

Could have Édith Piaf singing on top of the Eiffel Tower with a cigarette in one hand and a decapitated head in the other and it would still somehow be less French than this photo

The photo in this post is AI-generated, not a real photograph of protests in Paris. It edits a 2015 image from Yerevan, Armenia, replacing the protester with the Pink Panther.

Don't you just hate it when you try to kill the president and his bodyguards are all like "nuh uh."
the fact that the government is threatening to shoot us (the protesters) with live ammunition if we enter the élysée palace (there are snipers on the roof) is madness
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Group of protesters approached to within 200m of the Élysée Palace on 17 Oct but was repelled with tear gas. No reports from police or news outlets confirm a threat to use live ammunition or snipers on the roof targeting protesters.
