In four days, it will be a year since the siege of Sudan's El Fashir ended in a bloodbath. This is the story of a group of young doctors, nurses and volunteers who stayed at the last functioning hospital until the very end. With @hafiz54472061 economist.com/interactive/18…

It's absurd that the Trump administration responded to the Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by demanding that Iran ship out its stockpile of enriched uranium. The MOU, which Trump himself signed, specified that the HEU would be eliminated by "downblending on site under the supervision of the IAEA." So not only did the administration introduce an extraneous demand, they insisted on something that violated the agreement they signed in the summer. Moves like this are some of the many, many reasons that trust is at rock bottom.
Not a single gram of enriched uranium will be removed from Iran. There will be no negotiations until the United States takes steps to build trust. That process must begin with the full fulfillment of all Iran’s conditions.

In 2018, Meredith Whittaker organised a walkout at Google, in protest at an AI defence programme called "Project Maven". Whittaker says this project - dropped by Google but taken up by a rival firm - was responsible for a 2026 US airstrike on a school in Iran which killed 150 people. The US military hasn't yet released its Minab strike findings. The US Defence Secretary says they don't intentionally target civilians. 🎧 How did "AI delusion" impact the lives of vulnerable people around the globe? bbc.in/4nx49uB

For more than two months, I have been working on a truly horrific story about one of the gravest war crimes committed by the United States since Vietnam: The bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran. It was one of the first targets struck in the opening hours of the war on February 28, 2026. At least 156 people were killed in the U.S. cruise missile strikes—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers. We spoke to survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day. It would be impossible to do justice to what happened in Minab that day with words alone. In more than 25 years in journalism and reporting on war, I do not believe I have reported on a more heinous single crime. Massacre at Minab: The School That Became a Grave dropsitenews.com/p/minab-sch… Please share this story with as many people as you can.

Today, Iran Human Rights published its report on those killed during the January 2026 protests. At the end of the report, nearly 100 pages are devoted solely to the names and information of the victims. As you turn the pages and see the names, page after page, the scale of this crime becomes more tangible. Every name is a human being; someone with a life, dreams, a family, and loved ones waiting for them to come home. And when we know that more than 90% of them were killed in just two days, the magnitude of what happened becomes even more horrifying. This is a minimum list, and it is certainly neither complete nor free from error. One of the reasons we are publishing it at this stage is that we want, with your help, to make this record of the crime more complete and more accurate for the historical record. If you notice an error, if you cannot find the name of someone you know was killed during the protests, or if you have additional information, photographs or documentation about any of the victims, please share it with us. Documenting the truth is part of the path towards justice. #IranProtests2026

Video shows women taking part in a 10km run in Tehran, Iran today with some not wearing the mandatory hijab. Running events across the country have previously been cancelled or faced backlash amid authorities’ enforcement of the country’s mandatory hijab law.
Four years ago today, 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died in the custody of Iran’s morality police. Her death sparked nationwide protests and had a lasting impact on women in Iran, although there are fears that could change again. Listen to my report for BBC Radio 4’s Today programme:
