During the Skylab 4 mission in 1973, astronauts had to become handymen when they carried out an improvised repair on the space station using sewing needles and thread.
The problem was with the space station's solar array, which was not properly deploying. The solar array was essential for providing power to the space station. The astronauts had to come up with a solution to fix it while in orbit.
NASA engineers on the ground devised a plan that required the #astronauts to sew "solar shades" or, more accurately, to stitch tethers to hold the solar panels.
