Too many trees, the Global Trees campaign has been developing ways to counter this: globaltrees.org/ #BiodiversityDay #generationrestoration @bgci
At least 30% of the world's tree species face extinction in the wild. They range from well-known oaks and magnolias to tropical timber trees. It is twice the number of threatened mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles combined. #Biodiversity #Forests bbc.com/news/science-environ…

Important to remember threatened trees for biodiversity on #BiodiversityDay wherever you learn about nature and #generationrestoration.
On International Biodiversity Day, the Ginkgo biloba tree, planted on campus (listed as endangered in the IUCN red list of threatened species) reminds us of the need to protect our environment. Biodiversity is a key component of our BSc Hons #Biology degree #BiodiversityDay

Soils are an important part of biodiversity - from the biodiversity within, to the biodiversity of plants that rely upon it and the ecosystems that build from there. #BiodiversityDay and its time to think about all of the diversity for a shared future! @bgci
Everything we see as life on this planet – including worms, insects, birds, animals, plant life, and ourselves – happens out of just thirty-nine inches of topsoil.let's #SaveSoil and save all life in the planet. #BiodiversityDay #BiodiversityDay2022 #SaveBiodivesity @UNBiodiversity
#BiodiversityDay today! Learn about the @bgci new and exciting development for ensuring diversity is a part of the #generationrestoration future!

#DYK? With >300 species, magnolias are widely appreciated around the world for their ornamental qualities & as sources of medicine & timber. However, many are also in peril. The Red List of Magnoliaceae found that 47% of Magnolia species are threatened with extinction in the wild

The island of Socotra - which split from mainland Arabia 34 million years ago - is home to unique flora, including the Socotra dragon tree. However this tree, along with more of the island's rare species, face an uncertain future... news.globallandscapesforum.o…
We can then use these assessments to conserve and restore those most at risk. Like is done on the Global Trees Campaign - globaltrees.org/ #generationrestoration
Why care about the #StateofWorldsTrees Report? The report allows prioritisation of tree conservation on a species, local, national & international level. More conservation assessments for trees enables limited resources to be channelled towards species identified as most at risk

A GTC project between 2010-15 trialled different lansan resin extraction methods. Following the study, a sustainable management plan was adopted, resulting in a win-win-win: for the tappers, for local communities, and the trees! More on the study here: bit.ly/3uv9NUn
