A car is stolen every 4 minutes in the UK according to an article published by the BBC. A team of investigators spent time speaking with six police forces across the country, who shared their frustrations with vehicle crime and the demands of keeping up with the criminals and technology. The cost of vehicle theft is being felt across the country, the article states, with insurance quotes rising by 82% since 2021 and an estimated cost of £1.7bn per year to the UK economy. In the early hours of this morning our Secure Control Centre received a movement notification on our customer’s Hitachi digger. We immediately called the customer who confirmed the vehicle had been stolen. 8 minutes after the initial alert, our Repatriations Team had secured the vehicle alongside the police and one suspect was arrested. £1.6 million worth of stolen vehicles recovered in July. It was another busy month for our Secure Control Centre and Repatriation Team, with everything from Mercedes and Range Rovers to Porsches, motorhomes and even John Deere Gators recovered. London once again saw the most thefts, Mercedes topped the list of vehicles recovered, and one Mercedes X350D was located and recovered just 18 minutes after the initial alert. Stolen Range Rover Sport recovered by our Repatriation Team.
