Fact 1: President Trump wants Ukraine to stop attacking Russian petroleum infrastructure. Fact 2: President Zelenskyy wants access to U.S. targeting assistance to stop Russian missiles from being launched at Ukrainian civilians from inside Russia. Fact 3: President Zelenskyy has agreed not to hit Russian petroleum in exchange for this targeting assistance. Fact 4: President Trump can lower prices at the pump today by simply agreeing to this deal! MR. PRESIDENT, PLEASE TAKE THIS WIN!

Thanks Laura. Anyone can read the judge’s opinion here — note that the Trump administration, the defendant here, did not dispute these findings. courtlistener.com/docket/709…

This is, unreservedly, my favorite account of an ambassador behaving badly, from a diplomatic oral history site. I read this years ago and cannot forget it, and you won’t either. (If they made this a movie, it’d be R rated.) adst.org/2015/06/this-woman-…

America spent the better part of the last century establishing a world where hostile nations can't simply conquer their neighbors. We have benefited enormously from the stability that followed. Stable trade and economies mean your children can prosper.   Putin's invasion threatens that stability - and anyone who thinks the consequences will be confined to Ukraine needs a history lesson. Counter-factuals are helpful. Say we let Russia conquer Ukraine? Now you have Russia on the border of four more NATO countries and years more of tensions and financial investments. Keep the border at Ukraine? A message gets sent and NATO ushers in decades of peace. This is a very easy strategic calculation.

It’s blood money that Putin will use to kill Ukrainians while feeding intel to Iran to go after our men and women in uniform. And we produce a surplus of diesel every day in America. Morally wrong and economically senseless
Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway: The Russian diesel deal signals Trump is focused more on Americans than D.C. war enthusiasts. "I think what President Trump is trying to do here is put the American people first and let them have an interest in this ongoing, lengthy war between Russia and Ukraine." @MZHemingway

The president has been saying for years that Putin wants to make a deal, but I'd love to know what the evidence of that is. He's the aggressor in this war and regularly attacks civilian targets with no military purpose. He is a war criminal.
REPORTER: How are you going to make Putin abide by the ceasefire?" TRUMP: “I think what's happening is he wants to make a deal and we have to get Zelensky to want to make a deal”

He's right.
It is sickening that the USA is now lifting sanctions on Russian fuel, and transparently ridiculous to blame Ukraine for the spike in prices that obviously began with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Putin is murdering innocent Ukrainian civilians every day. The Ukrainians are fighting for their lives. And yet the White House is apparently determined to force American drivers to bankroll Putin’s slaughter. It won’t work and I doubt it will make much difference to the price of fuel. If we want Russian oil and gas back on the world market then let’s end this war - with a free, sovereign and independent Ukraine.

Congress, and the American people, have been clear that we do not support buying Russian oil to fund Putin’s war in Ukraine.  Just weeks ago, an overwhelming majority in the House passed legislation to levy steep new sanctions on the sale of Russian oil.  And before I came to Congress, there was a near unanimous vote to expressly prohibit the import of Russian oil with the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Law. The President’s decision to buy Russian oil is in direct conflict with the will of Congress and the intent of these laws.   I have been in direct communication with both my Republican and Democratic House members who share my opposition to the President’s ill conceived action.  I am working with my colleagues to introduce bipartisan legislation that will block any and all purchase of Russian oil.

President Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian fuel amidst Putin’s ongoing and brutal attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine makes no sense and is a betrayal of the legacy and leadership of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. While Ukraine fights for its survival, Putin’s war machine continues to prosecute his terrorist war on civilian populations and innocent Ukrainians are dying every day. Now, Instead of implementing the tough sanctions Lindsey Graham fought to his last breath to enact, President Trump has announced the United States is lifting sanctions on Russian energy, fueling the Putin’s war machine. As I saw firsthand in Ukraine last month, Putin is losing this war. Ukraine has fought the Russian military to a standstill and reinvented warfare with drones taking the fight into the heart of Russia. America should not be throwing a lifeline to Putin’s war machine. Now is the time to stand strong against Russian aggression as we did during the first Trump administration. Putin doesn’t want peace. Putin wants Ukraine. I have no doubt that if Putin overruns Ukraine, it will only be a matter of time until Russia’s military crosses a border that our troops will have to deal with him. America is the Leader of the Free World. For our National Security, for the security of our Allies in Europe including Ukraine, President Trump should rescind this deal immediately and return to the strong policies of our four years in the White House; impose harsh sanctions on any nation purchasing Russian energy and work with our allies to ensure Ukraine has the military support it needs to repel and defeat this Russian invasion once and for all. Listen to her full answer: stop healthcare cuts, remove regulatory barriers to build housing more quickly, promote HS training in construction trades, right to repair. Good agenda for Dems.
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez: "It is wild to hear [John Braun] talk about fuel prices in January. What about fuel prices right now? That's the question, and it's because of the war in Iran — which I've voted against six times."

I take a moment to salute, as I regularly do, one of the best signs in America — found at the Milwaukee airport, after security screening (with the discombobulation such screening entails). At the same time, I salute the boundless ingenuity of the English language.
