ALT ABBR. PREFACE. A collection of historic Journal of Glaciology covers adorns the cover page of the current journal issue before you. Starting in 2024, after 77 years of print publication, the International Glaciological Society (IGS) is moving to online-only publication of both our Journal of Glaciology (JOG) and Annals of Glaciology (AOG). This JOG Volume 69 Issue 278 is the final issue for which a paper copy will be issued. Discontinuing print copies allows us to reduce our environmental impact, speed up time to publication in final citable form, and save cost. JOG is the flagship scientific journal of the IGS and has been issued in print since 1947 as a journal on all aspects of snow and ice. The journal Nature announced, “The Journal promises to find a place among scientific periodicals of value” (Nature 159(736), 1947). Indeed, our JOG has found its place, and will continue to do so into the future. All JOG issues https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/journal-of-glaciology

ALT Fig. 1: Model reconstruction results for the 2001–2003 Dusty Glacier surge. (a) Sentinel-2 imagery (15/09/2019) of the Dusty Glacier ablation zone. The primary medial moraine is traced by a cyan dashed line in the confluence region of the northern (NT) and southern (ST) tributaries, and the location of the Dusty–Lowell Glacier icefall is shaded in red. Surging flow originating from the northern tributary complex is identified by a red arrow. Red circles identify particle source positions prior to (2000) and following the surge (2003) and during quiescence (2019). The regional overview and model domain (spatially and time-variable β parameter values in MPa m−1 a for the reference simulation) are shown in left and right inset panels, respectively. (b)–(d) Landsat-7 and Sentinel-2 images of the confluence region for 2000/2003/2019. (e)–(g) Model reconstruction of the moraine in the confluence region for 2000/2003/2019; red particles are model results; blue particles the observed moraine.
