Should add, pro neurodiversity, pro swearing, pro cats, pro Rollins era Black Flag (My War side 2), pro being a bit ghoulish, pro anarchy and pro drinking as much coffee as humanly possible. Oh and used to go to the Orbit and Megadogs in the 90’s, if you know you know😉
Went to storage unit to sort through and throw away my mums sentimental and personal paperwork then managed to underestimate the length of walk to bus stop in the rain, got soaked and had missed the last bus home and felt so dejected I just gave up and sat on the bench and cried

So this morning, we ask if there’s a complication with welfare review. The PM has written a very watery non-committal piece about NEETS. The Milburn review is next month.
But have they just received an inconveniently timed new intervention - the Fonagy review. We discuss this on today’s podcast
*What is Fonagy*? After then Health Secretary Wes Streeting said in March 2025, that “mental wellbeing, illness, it’s a spectrum and I think definitely there’s an overdiagnosis”, he commissioned Professor Peter Fonagy to look at this and feed into the Milburn report. It was published earlier this month
*What does it say*? Fonagy appears to challenge the main point of Milburn. His report says: “Low participation should not be interpreted as lack of ability, motivation or aspiration. Work is not invariably beneficial, and an early return is not always appropriate.”
He also says “secure, well-designed and supported work can promote recovery, while insecure or unsupported work can worsen mental health”
The review rejects the "snowflake generation" narrative, finding a genuine, steep increase in mental ill-health (such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, and eating disorders) over the last three decades, particularly among young people aged 16 to 24.
And on ADHD and Autism, found “On the basis of evidence available to us we cannot conclude that overdiagnosis is occurring at scale”.
*Why a complication*? Milburn is likely to recommend that - apart from those with severe and enduring disabilities - all financial support for young people should have work and training support and requirements attached. Arguing that work per-se is automatically good, as Milburn seems to, is now challenged by Fonagy. And where drawing the line on “severe and enduring disabilities” is more complicated.
Listen:
What does Andy Burnham believe on welfare reform?
Had a new government report / commissioned after Wes Streeting blamed “overdiagnosis” and challenges this and the idea work is always beneficial - complicated the welfare picture?
Plus what is similar and different about the public spending debate in France?

A recurring theme amongst the irredeemably evil: the anti trans, the Zionist, etc, is that they put imagined threats to safety (in this case that a dying cancer patient is going to sexually assault someone) above real ones (this woman literally died)
Replying to @phant1stic @JocastaMoney
So, are you suggesting that the ONLY thing the NHS could possibly have done, is place a man onto a female-only cander ward?
Are you serious?
Sometimes i’d really like there to be a dating site but to match you with a nemesis. One person to blame and be pissed off at for *everything* , maybe regularly meet up and fight them with pool noodles or something

Actually, a lot of us do struggle with social cues, which is why we were diagnosed with the "struggles to understanding social cues" disorder and not the "doesn't like inathenticity" disorder.
Hot take:
Neurodivergent people can understand social cues just fine. What throws us off is often the INAUTHENTICITY behind them.
So much of society revolves around fake smiles, meaningless small talk, and pretending everything is fine when it clearly isn’t.
Like, babe, I can see that you’re hurting. How am I supposed to comfortably sit here and discuss the weather when your entire soul looks exhausted?
I can’t not see this as a cartoon of Columbo being threatened by someone who is wearing his coat
Idk how popular Columbo role play is nor how many relationships broke up acrimoniously over who gets to wear the coat

Such a fantastic gothic romance. Neither fully pulp slasher or arthouse, something beautiful in-between, not much like it. If you ever get the opp to see this on the big screen, you should. A gorgeous looking film and the sound design hits so hard in a theater
