Remember that stories teach us not that dragons exist (we already knew that), but that dragons can be defeated. Hope is audacious and necessary, especially in creating art and telling stories
It’s difficult to want to clock in, but then I remember I work for the woman who is making sure the words of James Baldwin are accessible to the entire world and that art is what gets us through

not saying things are tense, but all the characters from Les Miserables are gradually gathering out side my window to sing a song
Writers: Art is inherently political. No matter what happens today, your words matter, your story matters, your voice matters. Use it to make the world be a little bit more like the world you want to live in.
Cleaning out the garage of an adhd person is like sorting through the graveyard of abandoned hobbies but also there’s at least two of everything
It’s a new month so that means there’s a new person in the comments section on TikTok telling me that “mature themes don’t belong in YA books”
In the last 24 hours I’ve posted videos about:

Publishing is not for the faint of heart, y’all

Do you enjoy doing #NaNoWriMo but don’t want to use the website for … reasons?

Absolutely devastating news for the person who asked how they get started writing a novel if they don’t know how to write a novel…
Nobody knows. You just have to be brave enough to suck at something new.
Today it’s “you have been prequalified for $72,000 in debt consolidation” but I remember the good old days when it was “we are trying to reach you about your car’s extended warranty”
How does one go about “raising the stakes” in a novel if
1) the novel is intended to be cozy or
2) the stakes are already “save the world”?
You answer the question of “why does THIS character have to do the thing?” #writingtips
“Because if they don’t, the whole world will be destroyed!”
Cool, but everyone has a stake in that. Why does THIS farm boy have to be the one to do it?
Because he has heretofore unseen magic? Because he’s the only one who knows it’s happening? Maybe.
If your character is doing the thing just because, that’s not a good enough reason. Your readers will feel indifferent and say that the stakes didn’t feel real, even if the stakes are sky-high. #writingtips
AI is so good at writing
I understand why so many aspiring authors think this is their ticket to fame and glory 🫠
If you are writing a novel, please for the love of all that is good in this world, turn off the widow/orphan control in your word processor.
Thank you.
That one time when James Patterson said something dumb in a USA Today interview so I used the USA Today bestseller list to prove him wrong and then got quoted in USA Today about it
