Early start #WHA2026 in Berlin today for a roundtable discussion with Africa CDC DG and industry on how to advance biomanufacturing in Africa. For us, it needs to start from the basic science and innovation space, from filing patents, creating startups and accelerating companies. Many people want to jump the gun and start at the top, when the solution may be to start at the grassroots level and with proper science. #SWEATAfrica #Innovation #Africa

India Day at #UNGA is a celebration of India’s knowledge, innovation and growing contribution to the world.
This year, GHS launched a five-part series capturing India’s experience in scaling health initiatives and innovations that have transformed care for its people. Spanning digital health, nutrition, health systems strengthening, pharmaceuticals, and maternal health, the reports explore what it takes to move from innovation to implementation at scale: what worked, what is still being learned, and lessons for the Global South.
The papers anchored the discussion at “Women, Children and Youth: Building Healthier Futures for the Next Billion.” We want to extend our thanks to the Ms. Punya Salila Srivastava, Secretary, @MoHFW_INDIA who delivered the keynote address at our session and launched the reports. Drawing on experiences from across India’s health system, the series helped frame a conversation about how countries can translate innovation into lasting, system-wide impact.

We are grateful to @GatesIndia for their partnership, the authors and all contributors for bringing these reports to life.

On the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (#UNGA81) in New York, Union Health Secretary Ms. Punya Salila Srivastava delivered the keynote address on “Women, Children and Youth: Building Healthier Futures for the Next Billion” at an India Day session organised by ORF and Reliance Foundation.
She highlighted how India’s key healthcare pillars — Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission — are strengthening health systems and contributing to improved outcomes in maternal, child and adolescent health.
Emphasising the importance of investing in women, children and young people, she underscored that strengthening health systems, leveraging technology, ensuring continuity of care and fostering community participation are vital to building healthier, more inclusive and resilient societies.

Universal health coverage is the ultimate expression of equity – the idea that all people can access the health services they need, without financial hardship
@GHS has been one of the most steadfast advocates for UHC, including its work to establish #UHCDay, which #UNGA adopted in 2017, and which we now celebrate every year on the 12th of December.
My special thanks to the CEO David Gold for his passion, leadership and partnership over many years, to advocate for access to health care for everyone, everywhere.
And thank you for the humbling honour last night.
Equity is the reason we do this work, so I accept this award as a commitment to continue.

The 21 diseases on the WHO's neglected tropical disease list share one thing: they overwhelmingly hit poor and marginalized communities, and getting added can be its own battle. For many impacted people, getting their NTD added to the list is just the first step towards broader awareness and sustained funding. Read more: forbes.com/sites/christinero…
Dengue infects up to 400 million people a year—and India carries a third of that burden. The country just approved its first vaccine, Qdenga, developed by Takeda. It targets all four dengue strains and works regardless of prior infection.

As #WorldBreastfeedingWeek draws to a close, let’s hear from the people at the heart of it - young moms and dads from across GHS offices.
This shared what breastfeeding has meant to them - the experiences, the support that helped, and the small moments that made a difference. Their stories remind us that every breastfeeding journey is stronger when it is shared.
#WorldBreastfeedingWeek #WBW2026
Today marks the start of #WorldBreastfeedingWeek2026.
Breastfeeding gives every child a healthy start, but mothers need the right support to make it possible. Families, healthcare providers, workplaces, and communities all have a role to play.
Together, let's create an environment where every mother has the support she needs to breastfeed.

Researchers in Nigeria have developed a creative way to educate children about schistosomiasis, a neglected tropical disease that impacts millions of children in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Although effective treatment and prevention tactics are available, transmission awareness and misinformation pose a challenge to uptake. Enter “Schisto & Ladders”, a board game developed by researchers from Akwa Ibom State University. The game teaches children about ways to prevent schistosomiasis, combats misinformation, and helps improve community uptake of the safe medicines used to treat it.
