If your app uses .env files, put comments in .env.example, not .env.
.env is runtime state.
.env.example is the shared contract.
Real values in one.
Human guidance in the other.
If you do both, they drift.
.env.example documents the setup.
Validation enforces it.
That’s the jump from guidance to contract.
