• Observed WACE mode trend uniquely forced by BKS sea ice concentration.

• Observed Barents-Kara Sea ice has a distinct 5-to-6-year cycle, carrying the highest variance.
• Same cycle with the most variance seen in the associated Ural Blocking and Warm Arctic Cold Eurasia Pattern (WACE) of variability
