While everyoneās in Cologne for Gamescom, weāve been hiding in a windowless little lair finishing Issue #2 of Indie Corner.
60 pages. 13 indie games. Written by real humans whoāve actually played them.
So if youāre back at the hotel burping up a ā¬14 currywurst and still not ready to call it a night, consider Indie Corner your accomplice for the hotel-room afters.
Out now. Free. Link š in comments š

Iām interested to know whether indie developers actually share this view.
Thereās still a lot of understandable resistance to AI being involved in the creative process, particularly when it comes to replacing or diminishing human craft.
Has anyoneās stance on AI shifted?

GTA6 trailer is fire? Nah, have you even watched Tingus Goose?
I stumbled across this trailer and Iāve watched it about 10 times now.
I still donāt really understand what the game is. I think I laughed, then got confused, then just went āwait, what the fuck is this?ā š
You plant a seed inside a patient?
It grows into a giant goose-tree?
Babies fall out of it?
You strategically bounce those babies around to make money?
I donāt know if my above assumptions are right, but itās now on Xbox and Iām gonna absolutely download this purely based on this trailer.
Has anyone played it?! Gimme your thoughtsā¦

I think Iāve realised this particular style of game might just be my kryptoniteā¦
I downloaded @SilverPinesGame on my Xbox while my wife was doing some work, and somehow 2.5 hours disappeared.
I had the same thing happen last year with Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days.
Gimme that 2.5D atmospheric mystery/horror, throw in a creepy small-town America setting as a bonus and I completely forget what day or time it is.
You can feel the old school Resident Evil/Silent Hill/Twin Peaks inspo Iām seeing so many people point out. And the art style is simply⦠well, itās fucking incredible.
One of my favourite games this year.

Devs. To market your game you need a big marketing budget..
Or at least thatās what weāre are lead to believe a lot of the time.
I was going to post this game like I usually do (games that I find interesting), but I thought how the dev was marketing the game equally as interesting so I wanted to share my thoughts.
Heās been consistently documenting the development through short devlogs, but the clever part is how heās adapted the actual development process into marketing the game and subsequently, building out a community. Whether this is intentional or not, itās certainly getting attention including mine!
Every little development challenge can become its own piece of content. Show the problem ā”ļø show the failed attempts ā”ļø show how you solved it - and in the process youāve shown people what makes your game interesting.
A new mechanic becomes content.
A weird physics interaction becomes content.
Even something that completely breaks or a bug can become content.
None of it really feels like āmarketingā, but every video is another opportunity for someone to discover the game.
Iāve mentioned this before, but the MegaBonk game is another example of a dev who did this brilliantly on Tik Tok.
Players would suggest game inclusions or point out bugs and the developer would start the next video with their comment, then show himself adding, fixing the bug - or sometimes deliberately keeping it.
The development journey became the marketing angle, while the community became part of the development.
Sometimes the best marketing isnāt about how much money you can spend.
Itās how creatively you use what you already have.
Iāve been enjoying seeing your updates on IG @matthizzone and Iām āsuperā keen to check out Super Money Ring āš»

Weāre on the hunt for horror games to feature in Octoberās issue of Indie Corner. š
If youāre an indie dev working on something you think we should check out, drop your game or trailer on the post below.
We want to see it. š
We need horror games. Lots of them.
Octoberās Indie Corner is going full Halloween/Horror and the four of us are looking for games to play and write a feature article on - preferably ones thatāll scare the shit out of us⦠or are just gruesome as hell. š¬
If youāve played something recently that you think deserves more attention or youāre an indie dev with a horror game you want us to check out, drop your trailer, Steam page or link below too.
Weāre watching everything. š

Anyone old enough to remember Minesweeper?
Someone turned Minesweeper into a tiny fantasy kingdom builder and it may be one of the few mobile games I play.
Every tile you uncover helps build and defend a little fantasy kingdom full of resources, treasure, goblins and sleeping dragons.
Such a clever spin on a classic!
Game: Keepsweeper

Iām not really sure how far this post will go, but I genuinely hope it reaches the right people.
Dwayne reached out to us pretty early on after seeing what we were trying to build with Glizzy.
He started writing for the blog, then became a huge part of Indie Corner.
And Iāll be honest, without Dwayne and Shaun - Indie Corner doesnāt exist.
Heās also not some random bloke who decided to start writing about games yesterday.
Heās a former Managing Editor of Waypoint at VICE and has spent years working across games media.
The industry has changed a lot, and with more and more content being churned out by AI, I think good writers who actually understand games, developers and how to tell a story are only becoming more valuable.
Dwayne is now looking for his next full-time role.
In saying that, weāre not letting him go, haha. Heāll absolutely continue writing for Indie Corner. We just canāt offer him a full-time position, as much as weād love to.
Publishers. PR agencies. Studios. Media outlets.
If you need someone who can write the fuck out of an article, edit, shape editorial, or help tell the story around a game properly, please reach out to him or DM me.
There are people who can write, and then there are people who can write in a way that actually feels like a conversation.
Dwayne has that.
Every time he writes something, you actually want to keep reading. Checkout Indie Corner, and youāll know what I mean.
And if you donāt have anything yourself, a share might just put this in front of someone who does.
Iād love to see one of the good ones land somewhere great.

If youāre a true indie fan, youāll read it.
If not, thatās okay. We canāt all be built different. š
Issue #3 of Indie Corner is now live!
This issue has our interview with @PlayAcclaim talking about their past, but more importantly, whatās next - including how they plan to support indie developers and their games.
Weāve also got a Q&A with the Ground Zero Hero dev, upcoming indie games, new releases and a heap of brilliant developers worth keeping an eye on.
Oh, and subscribers can score free games. For doing absolutely nothing.
A bit like the old magazine days with the free demo disc⦠if anyone here is old enough to remember those. š“
Worst case scenario, you end up with a free magazine full of indie games we actually recommend. Devastating outcome š

Sometimes the simplest games are the best.
This is literally a $5 surfing game where you can make your own waves⦠Surf them or, just sit there and watch them roll in.
No missions. No enemies. No complicated story.

This is fucking amazing.
1,700 artists from 101 countries took part in the same 3D challenge - create your own fighter card.
And somehow⦠it turned into an ACTUAL card game.
The community-created characters are now playable digitally, with the Top 100 also becoming physical cards.
This is such a ridiculously cool way to make a game.
Ghost Protocol is my favourite (8:10)

Zombie Apocalypse?
Yeah, fuck that. I am getting a boat and heading out to sea...
Turns out, this concept is being made into a game.
Your boat is your entire base - you live on it, fish from it, upgrade it and defend it.
Then eventually you need supplies.... so dinghy back to shore and start scavenging through zombie infested towns. Get what you need. Get back on the boat. Get the hell out of there.
This might genuinely be my perfect zombie game.

Alright. Issue #3 of Indie Corner is getting close⦠sooo bugger it. Front cover reveal. š
What started because I missed walking into a shop and picking up a physical gaming mag has somehow grown into publisher interviews, dev interviews, giveaways and a whole lot more.
This month we sat down with Marc, Director of Publishing & Strategic Partnerships at @PlayAcclaim, to talk about Acclaimās history, the nostalgia of the 90s and 2000s, and where theyāre taking things next with indie games.
Weāve also got a Q&A with @RowanEdmondson, the dev behind Ground Zero Hero, plus the usual stack of game reviews, articles and trailers.
>Still free.
>Still words. Now with videos too.
>Still not written by AI.
>Still made by people who genuinely love this stuff.
Issue #3 dropping 30th Sept.
