We are not inviting Putin to Kyiv. They came to us without an invitation in 2022. But that’s not why there’s no point in inviting Putin to Kyiv. It’s because he won’t come. The same goes for inviting me to Moscow. What Russia is doing is destructive. It’s simply spitting in the face of the whole world that wants this war to end. That’s why no one will support going to Moscow.
As for a phone call, Russia will use it as an excuse to avoid any further meetings. And we understand this game. It leads nowhere. It would just be a very formal, dry phone conversation where I would once again have to listen to a history lecture from the leader of the Russian Federation, rather than hear about real steps to actually end the war.
If we want to end the war, we have to meet and take the first step: a ceasefire.

Britain is rebuilding ties with the EU - where could it lead?
The latest deals between the UK and the European Union are small compared to the leap back into - or at least towards - the arms of the EU that Andy Burnham now appears to favour.

Brexit "isn't an on/off switch" says Defence Secretary on a visit to Brussels.
"There are bigger questions about what deeper co-operation could look like, what would the choices involve, what would the trade-offs be," said @wesstreeting. #brexit

What are the connections between Europe’s protests?
The number of demonstrations taking place across many parts of Europe is unusual. While the reasons may vary, a common factor is economics, writes @georgvh.

"Yes, the Bayeux Tapestry will return" to France, the French Culture Minister @catherinepegard has confirmed (presumably in case anyone suspected the Brits of planning to keep it beyond summer 2027) #Bayeux
German Chancellor Merz on Zelenskyy's request for an extra €70bn in aid (on top of the €90bn the EU is already providing for 2026-27):
Expect EU to calculate Ukraine's needs in coming weeks before EU27 leaders revisit before the end of the year.
