So what is a MAVE? Essentially its like a gladiatorial contest for your gene variants. You make all the possible changes, put them in assay, and see which ones make it through your selection. Different assays allow you to look at different functions of each gene.

You can’t recycle wind turbines.
If you’ve ever said this, or believed someone that’s said it, look away now.
Do not continue reading if you know it’s going to trigger you.
It is one of the favourite arguments against renewable energy, and it has just taken a hit.
Scotland’s first commercial wind farm has been decommissioned after operating since 1995.
So what happened to all that supposedly “unrecyclable” green technology?
79.5% of it was recycled.
20.4% was reused and repurposed for future spare parts.
Less than 0.1% went to landfill.
That’s 99.9% recycled or reused.
“But the blades! What about the blades?!”
Those were processed into a new polymer material that can be used as an alternative to timber, concrete and virgin plastics in construction.
It gets worse for the weird anti-renewables crowd…
The original wind farm needed 26 turbines.
The replacement?
Just 14 modern turbines, producing around FIVE TIMES the generating capacity of the original site.
Enough electricity equivalent to the annual needs of around 57,000 homes.
Of course, this doesn’t mean wind turbines have zero environmental impact.
Nothing does.
But the next time somebody tells you we’ll have millions of wind turbine blades dumped in landfill while insisting we should continue extracting, transporting and burning fossil fuels forever…
Send them this post.

ELECTRIFICATION: Really striking chart showing that three-quarters of final energy demand can now be electrified "economically" (ie at lower lifetime cost) – and 90% electrification is technically possible

We want Stargate back.
But more importantly, we want you to understand why we want it back.
There is a concern among many long-time fans that the value of the Stargate franchise is being viewed primarily as its basic premise and brand recognition, rather than the incredible universe that has already been built.
Stargate 1994 movie was just the beginning. A small window. Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe didn't simply tell variations of the same story. Together, they created a vast mythology, established characters, countless worlds, civilisations, technologies, mysteries and decades of history.
That history isn't baggage.
It's the franchise's greatest asset.
We aren't asking you to simply recreate SG-1. We aren't asking for endless nostalgia or a carbon copy of what came before.
We want something new.
Give us new characters. New teams. New worlds. New threats. New mysteries.
But don't throw away the universe that makes those new stories possible.
There is no reason why a new series can't be accessible to someone discovering Stargate for the first time while still respecting the people who have been watching, supporting and talking about this franchise for decades.
In fact, that would be Stargate's greatest strength.
You don't have to choose between new audiences and existing fans.
You can bring people into the franchise by giving them a compelling new story — while rewarding longtime viewers who understand the history behind the universe.
So please don't look at Stargate and see something that needs to be rebooted simply because it's old.
Look at what you've inherited.
Look at the enormous universe that is already there.
And then ask yourselves:
“Where can we take this next?”
That's the Stargate we want.
Not a replacement.
Not an erasure.
A continuation. An expansion. A new chapter in a universe we already love.
Amazon MGM — please listen to the fans.
Don't reboot the universe. Explore it.

What is the Amalgaverse?
The Amalgaverse is a fictional shared universe of fictional SF universes that will serve as the setting for a series of missions that will play out as episodic adventures in the style of the beloved ship-based sci-fi shows of the 90's.
How will these missions play out?
The missions will play out in the form of an online choose-your-own-adventure format with fan voting driving the narrative. YOU choose the missions. YOU select the away teams. YOU make the decisions that shape each adventure.
How elaborate is each mission?
Each mission has been designed like an episode of sci-fi television complete with twists, turns, shocks, and surprises. Five acts. At least five beats per act. A beginning, middle, and ending. Just like the old days!
How many missions have you designed?
Since these missions will play out like episodes from those beloved ship-based sci-fi shows of the 90's, I've structured a similar rollout. Ten missions to start followed by a brief hiatus after which the back half ten episodes will unfold. 20 missions/episodes in total. That will be our first season. And depending on fan response, a second season could be in the cards.
This seems like a lot of work. Why are you doing this?
I'm tired of crafting stories (pitches, pilots scripts, series bibles) that never see the light of day, always subject to the whims of gormless executives. Science fiction is a tough sell. Far future sci-fi, tougher still. Far future ship-based sci-fi, toughest of all. But that's my jam. And I've missed it. So this allows me to do what I do best, exercise those creative muscles, and hopefully give SF fans something to look forward to with every mission. For entertainment purposes only of course.
But, characters aside, couldn't you just turn these stories into a script you can try selling or a book you could publish? Wouldn't that be more lucrative?
Yes, absolutely, but, as I said, the prospect of selling a far future ship-based sci-fi series is so remote that I'd prefer the fun and the satisfaction of this exercise over the prospect of writing yet another script that will just end up on a digital shelf. And, yes, I could write a book - but that would require more time and effort than I am willing to commit at this time.
Okay, enough questions. When do we get started?
The adventures begin Monday, September 21st at 12:01 E.T., here on X. Set a reminder and turn on notifications so you don't miss a beat!

Pauline Hanson says native title has “dispossessed” people of their land.
Fact-checkers asked native title lawyers to name one case, in 33 years since Mabo, where a determination took freehold from its owner.
They found none. Here’s why that’s not luck — it’s how the law was built.

Reports of further job losses at CSIRO are deeply concerning, particularly after around 1,100 roles have been lost in 2 yrs.
Recent funding for urgent capital works was welcome, but CSIRO also needs long-term, sustained investment so it can retain the talented scientists and researchers we need to tackle the challenges ahead.
The govt should provide that certainty.

Lithium sentiment isn't just visible in price — it's showing up in offtake activity too.
2026 volumes already exceed 2024 and 2025, as downstream players scramble to lock in feedstock. (Note: this chart only captures publicly disclosed offtakes — a fraction of total agreements signed — but it's still a solid barometer of activity.)
Refiners and traders are leading the charge. Car OEMs and cathode producers, meanwhile, are pushing sourcing risk down to cell manufacturers.
Feels a lot like 2021-22 — right before the last price boom.
