APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) let software apps talk and share data using set rules, like a weather app grabbing data. MCP (Model Context Protocol), launched by Anthropic in Nov 2024, connects AI models to external tools and data for real-time tasks, like an AI editing files. APIs are general; MCP is AI-specific, acting like a universal plug for AI integration. Chamath's quip suggests MCP's buzzword appeal for startups, but it’s a distinct tool, not just an API rebrand. grok.x.com

Well, I guess one of the perks of electing a bunch of Clowns is that you get to live in a Circus! This week our stock market has endured some of the wildest volatility since the Great Depression, all to end up right back where we started. Meanwhile, TRILLIONS of dollars were reallocated in the trading frenzy - hopefully you weren't on the losing side of any of this. Additional untold billions of dollars of wealth and productivity were permanently destroyed as the majority of US businesses have had to pause their hiring and buying decisions until all this political showmanship calms down. Or as I read in one particularly insightful article, "Business leaders can't make plans for the future until they know what the fuck shit is gonna cost!" Overall, big tariffs are just equivalent to a national sales tax. They aren't really "hitting" other countries, in the end they are paid by *you*, the purchaser of imported products (and almost all products contain some imported content). Over time, free trade and minimal tariffs makes both sides richer, so they should only really be used to protect very strategic national interests (because you don't want to be dependent on a potential rival for things like food and fighter jets). So, all of this ridiculousness is self imposed. Let's hope we stop shooting ourselves in the foot eventually so we can get back to dominating shit as the world's largest and wealthiest economy!

A while back you mentioned "freedom of speech but not freedom of reach". I know it's very complicated but right now it seems like the more extreme the content/opinion the more it is pushed. As a result, the gap between normies and Twitter users is growing. This is, of course, true on other social media too. But it would be great if more can be done to encourage high quality discussion and discourage insults, trolling so that Twitter can be a public square for the sensible 80% instead of a cage fight for the retarded 20%.

I received a report from our delegation on their meeting with the American team in Saudi Arabia. The discussion lasted most of the day and was good and constructive—our teams were able to discuss many important details. Our position remains absolutely clear: Ukraine has been seeking peace from the very first second of this war, and we want to do everything to achieve it as soon as possible and in a reliable way—so that war does not return. At this meeting with the Americans, Ukraine proposed three key points: silence in the skies—stopping missile strikes, bombs, and long-range drone attacks; silence at sea; real confidence-building measures in this whole situation, in which diplomacy is ongoing, which primarily means the release of prisoners of war and detainees—both military and civilian—and the return of Ukrainian children who were forcibly transferred to Russia. The American side understands our arguments and considers our proposals. I am grateful to President Trump for the constructive conversation between our teams. During today’s talks, the U.S. side proposed taking an even bigger first step—a 30-day full interim ceasefire, not only stopping missile, drone, and bomb attacks, not only in the Black Sea, but also along the entire front line. Ukraine is ready to accept this proposal—we see it as a positive step and are ready to take it. Now, it is up to the United States to convince Russia to do the same. If Russia agrees, the ceasefire will take effect immediately.

For the ignorant Americans who don't understand what US Aid to Ukraine actually looks like, please read and share this list: - The vast majority of the military aid we're providing Ukraine comes directly from existing U.S. military stockpiles. - These weapons aren't brand new; they're mostly older stockpiles that the U.S. military planned to replace anyway. - The funding approved by Congress actually goes to American companies (like Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and Boeing) to build new, upgraded weapons for OUR OWN military. - This helps the American economy: Supports thousands of American jobs Strengthens American manufacturing Ensures our military gets newer, better weapons - Ukraine gets help against Putin's aggression. From his military's horrific violations against innocent women and children. - America gets stronger, safer, and better equipped in the process.

Netflix offers dream salaries to lure top talent. Then they tell managers to constantly consider firing them. This mind-bending paradox is reshaping how Silicon Valley thinks about job security. Here's the inside story of Netflix's infamous 'Keeper Test'... A thread 🧵
