Premise: Incentives drive all human behavior. The corollary: How to destroy a country: A vast social security and support system that serves as a magnet for those who would rather not work. An open immigration policy that does not screen immigrants to determine their ability and willingness to provide for themselves and their families. An open immigration policy that does not screen for political and/or religious ideologies that are a threat to the country. Economic incentives large enough to incentivize immigrants on the state dole to have large numbers of children, but insufficient for educated and economically productive mothers to be able to quit to raise a family. The declining fertility of the most educated and productive women due to their delay to begin a family as a result of their desire and/or need to advance their careers, among other reasons, to live a life they deem consistent with their educational achievements and/or to repay their student debts. Amnesty programs that give citizenship and voting power to illegal immigrants without consideration of their economic productivity or their threat to the country due to their religious or political ideologies. The changing demographics and increased population due to the above factors. The state responding to protests by increasing social support. The continued failure to punish and hold accountable violent and looting rioters. Government managed by a massive and growing unelected bureaucracy. Government fraud, waste, and abuse contributed to ballooning budgets. Anti-business legislation that makes it difficult for businesses to compete in a global marketplace being disrupted by AI, including restrictions on firing even poorly performing employees. Overly burdensome, globally uncompetitive, corporate taxation. Continuous increases in personal taxes to raise funds to provide for the rapidly growing welfare state. The substantial majority of the tax burden levied on a small percentage of the population. A growing percentage of the electorate paying no taxes and receiving welfare. The introduction or threat of a wealth tax including the taxation of unrealized gains, i.e., taxes on paper wealth. The flight of the most productive business builders and highest taxpayers to lower tax countries with lesser security concerns. A growing percentage of the electorate voting for candidates that support increased welfare and laws favorable to, and/or that match the cultural and ideological needs and desires of a growing unproductive immigrant population. The rapid rise in anti-semitism and inadequate efforts to address this hatred. Increased borrowing by the state to fund the growing social burden. Higher sovereign interest rates due to all of the above. The resulting need to reduce expenditures to make the math work. Increasingly violent protests that make life less livable for the productive and law abiding citizens leading to their accelerated departure. And so on…

You don’t understand business Ro. It doesn’t have to fail. Those entrepreneurs can bust their asses for the next 10 yrs. Create THOUSANDS OF JOBS, pay more than 250m taxes to the Feds and state over those 10 yrs. BUT, never have 250m they can take out of the company. BECAUSE THEY ARE GROWING. Making them unable to pay back California their loan. Is that what you want your state to be ? Next tweet we can discuss who the money is going to with Prop 40.

The government would still collect from the vast majority of billionaires who are not illiquid. 72 percent of their wealth is in public stock. We are talking here about true paper billionaires with illiquid assets. And in those cases, the government would make out if the company succeeds in terms of collection but founders would not be personally liable if the company somehow failed. Mark, come on a road trip with me around California, Pennsylvania and the country and ask ordinary Americans how they feel about a billionaire tax. Most say, I promise you, why only 5 percent? There used to be a time where everyone deeply admired business leaders. We always had our suspicion with politicians. But business leaders were different. Andy Grove, Lee Iacocca, Warren Buffett. I know people respect you, especially with shark tank! But doesn't it concern you that today's business leaders do not have the same esteem today. Why is that? It's because many Americans feel the system is not working for them, that the success of a few is not tied to their success. What I am trying to do is offer a new social contract for this country. I am a progressive capitalist --I want a future economy that works for everyone, not just the capital class in a few places. I want thoughtful business leaders like you to help me build that country. Thats what FDR did with recruiting Bill Knudson from GM, railing against economic royalists, and then getting business leaders to industrialize America and build the greatest middle class!

I have two bills that will help prevent a future pandemic: 1️⃣ Royalty Transparency Act requires federal agencies to publicly disclose royalty payments to government scientists, addressing potential conflicts of interest like those raised in the Fauci investigation. 2️⃣ Risky Research Review Act calls for comprehensive review and stricter oversight of all federally funded high-risk biological and gain-of-function research, including projects linked to the origins of COVID.

We are witnessing the largest CapEx spending spree in history. Hyperscalers have committed a record $2.6 trillion in future spending across data center leases and equipment purchases. This includes leases for data centers and power infrastructure that have not yet commenced, and existing purchase contracts for equipment and services. These obligations do not appear on company balance sheets and are disclosed only in limited accounting footnotes, despite their enormous size and duration. Alphabet, $GOOGL, has the largest total, with $811 billion in purchase commitments and $85 billion in leases not yet commenced, bringing its combined obligations to ~$896 billion. By contrast, Oracle, $ORCL, has committed $32 billion to purchases, but $260 billion to leases that have not yet commenced, the largest lease obligation among the group, bringing its total to ~$292 billion. The AI buildout has become one of the largest long-term capital commitments in corporate history.

Incredible. Jensen is completing the circle. - Bankers don’t like GPUs as collateral because the depreciation is unpredictable - It’s unpredictable because a new GPU can obsolete an old one - Jensen knows his own roadmap - so he’s offering depreciation insurance to the banks - the depreciation insurance (up to 25%) helps the banks get marginal deals over the line Speculation - Nvidia will also advise the banks on “reference designs” for datacenters that will make them fungible - Having them be fungible means that the debt can repackaged into Asset Backed Securities, Collateralized Loan Obligations and Collateralized Debt Obligation (ABS, CLOs and CDOs from 2008 haha) - This allows tranching to get investment grade ratings on the debt so that it can be resold to pension funds and insurance firms - It also allows the banks to trade idiosyncratic project specific credit risk for sector wide credit risk So Jensen is trying to get his customers the same cost of financing as real estate rather than venture equity. This is going to move the data center game out of the VCs and into the big leagues.
