It is forbidden to talk about #violence at the Chaos Computer Club. In an attempt to make arrangements in advance, I have now reaped a complete event ban, regardless of whether the meeting to talk about interpersonal violence takes place or not. kommunikationsliebe.org/en/p…

I doubt anyone is going to follow this recommendation and actually buy the book, but, wow, it is amazing. Deep, honest, brutal, thought [and feelings] provoking, moving. 🩷 vivianbroughton.com/my-books…

Toxic relationships also exist between colleagues, or in hackerspaces. There is no need for a “love couple”. I know of several cases of such toxic relationships in various hackerspaces. They almost destroyed the respective spaces. This can be addressed. kommunikationsliebe.org/en/p…

"This topic triggers me, or it might trigger someone else, and thus it must not be talked about." This is a highly dangerous argument. You cannot make an issue magically disappear by banning any mention of it. You are making it WORSE. kommunikationsliebe.org/en/p…

…12 extraordinary people came together to discuss shame; it felt like taking the lid off a secret, exploring the complexity of this subject with such courage & honesty. More to come but meanwhile - just thank you @empathymuseum & @clarepatey for inviting us & to you who spoke – at Lambeth, London

The degree to which the actions behind painful or violent conflict are simply sadness - and the frequency with which that elects surprise from those involved - suggests a significant alienation from the lives we’re living. We don’t know conflict because we don’t know ourselves.

Fear of conflict is also often fear of grief, of feeling the loss that accompanies broken connection, safety and trust. There is a depth to community that is not always felt until it is damaged or lost, and there being such depth to something newly found as fragile terrifies us.

A willingness to live with conflict denotes the resilience required to live democratically. Aversion to conflict is the first step on the road to authoritarian repression.
