Purveyor of persiflage. Bad jokes and boring tweets about vintage tools, woodworking, guns, marksmanship, and amateur radio. That tweet was sarcasm, dummy.

Currently baffled by Massey Ferguson flywheel part numbers and whether a 165 diesel flywheel will fit a 175. My installed part doesn’t match the catalog.

Flywheel weighs in at 100 lbs, so it’s not a lot of fun to handle, and shipping will be brutal.

Found a lot of shredded clutch fiber and a cotter pin head behind the flywheel. Don’t reuse worn cotter pins in your clutch finger pins, you guys. Looks like a new rear main seal is in order, too.

Flush the bombers, get the subs in launch mode. We are at DEFCON 1.
BREAKING: Debris believed to be from a Chinese rocket has been discovered in a farmer’s cornfield in Minnesota, after the spacecraft’s upper stage reentered Earth’s atmosphere over the United States. The massive metallic object, approximately 11 feet (3.4 meters) wide, was discovered October 14, prompting an investigation by state and federal authorities. According to Ars Technica, the evidence points to a Zhuque-2E rocket launched by Chinese company LandSpace on September 15, carrying 10 satellites for China’s Qianfan broadband constellation, a planned rival to SpaceX’s Starlink. After deploying its satellites, the rocket’s upper stage performed a deorbit maneuver, with its trajectory and diameter closely matching the debris found in Minnesota. Rocket stages are typically directed toward unpopulated ocean areas during controlled disposal, raising questions about whether this reentry went as planned. No injuries were reported, and the object’s origin has not yet been officially confirmed.

Tranny holds 8 gallons of lube and had maybe 2.5 in it. Doesn’t look terrible at first glance, and at least it wasn’t full of water.

This is what my dad's Massey 165 looked like when we took it apart 40 years ago, so I'm planning to strip the gearbox at least far enough to replace inner and outer input shaft seals and rebuild the multipower clutch pack.

The two-stage clutch has a separate disk for wheel drive and PTO, and there are coaxial input shafts with steel piston ring-style seals to hold the pressure from the multipower pump. That's the weak point of multipower, and where it generally ends up spewing on your clutch.

Figured out why the clutch doesn’t work.

For the slower students in the twitter, the pivot pin for one of the clutch fingers fell out and was lying in the bellhousing.

AIUI, the bead saw is used to cut a narrow groove in a corner like this. Works ok, I guess?

Pretty lazy shaping on the handle, with cigar and regular spokeshave, and a faint maker’s mark to go with it. Gonna need @_zetts to DM his address so I can get this thing out of my way.

And for the lazy hand-rubbed finish, I had to mix up a new batch of BLO+turps since my old one turned into a glob.
