The invention of the blockchain is like the invention of the engine. Today, we haven't yet built the leather seats, seatbelts, steering wheel, dashboard, and chassis for drivers to access it enjoyably. We also haven't built proper inter-city highways, nor speed limits and safety laws. Not to mention drivers ed and licenses. The early adopters who have been able to use this primitive engine have had a huge competitive advantage. They have stuck on rickety wheels, a stool on top, and hotwired the engine to drive it themselves, zooming around DeFi and NFTs on bootstrapped race cars while everyone else is still walking. Soon we will build proper cars, and everyone will learn how to drive. It will change everything about human society, and in some very unexpected ways. The outsized influence and competitive advantage of early adopters will wane as driving becomes commonplace, but it will be a much better world overall.
