G2G Protein Bar

Casey Child was working as a sales and broker manager at a regional insurance carrier when he started making protein bars for himself. His goal was a minimally processed, great-tasting bar for people with active lifestyles. His first step, he says, was telling himself he was in the protein bar business and following through. He launched G2G Bar in 2010 with about $100,000 from friends and family. The company says it was one of the first refrigerated protein bar companies at a time when shoppers expected shelf-stable bars packed with preservatives. The biggest challenge was staying in business long enough not to run out of money, so G2G raised a little more to stay afloat until it became profitable. Casey says navigating brokers and decision makers in the CPG food world was one of the most surprising parts of the business. Today G2G produces every bar in its own facility and sells through retailers including Costco, Whole Foods and Safeway.
