At Zed, everyone could just push to main. By all accounts a delightful product with highest quality. No code reviews. At Amp too, we don't have mandatory code reviews. We have visibility through Amp threads, by sharing URLs to WIP work, by sharing feature-flagged stuff, ... You can now literally ship a feature behind a feature flag in 2min, get feedback from prod, and then share it with someone by adding them to the feature flag. Better than PR, IMHO, and just one way to do it.

Should we generate the code? Should we read the code? Should we review the code? It depends.

If you have to go up a mountain as fast as possible, you may take some transport. But a climber is a climber, their heart is in the process. The existence of helicopters does not matter.

Turns out my slide decks made a video! When organizers ask for the presentation days before, it is over my dead body, slides are iterated till the very last moment 😅. youtube.com/shorts/YqPPyGDfi…

On status symbols. People who show off about status or money: Can you afford a private 747 with a solid-gold throne, and a garage full of platinum-plated supercars? No? So shut the fuck up, you poor! (With that, I'll let my organic neural network stop generating tweets 😂.)

On automated household chores. Having domestic service does not end your eternal status race. Because those with MORE domestic service can still look down on you. Once household humanoids become routine, having **human** domestic service will be the ultimate status symbol.

if the Chinese release a goat-herding humanoid, the plan B for escaping the new times will be screwed for many. I just hope they direct their ingenuity more toward household chores than martial arts and acrobatics.

All Rails World 2026 talks now online! Last week more than 1,000 developers gathered in Austin to hear talks from 27 speakers. While all four keynotes got everyone talking about AI, this year’s talks covered a good balance of what's new in Rails and how Rails developers are putting AI to work: from harnesses to Herb, Active Search to HotCell, generators to Lexxy, and so much in between. If you got caught in the hallway track, or couldn't make it to Austin, catch up on what you missed here: youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…

Yesterday I "made" a little game to learn chess coordinates. Please give it a try if you love playing chess but suck at those coordinates! If you understand the name, then you are probably in the target group! e4e5Nf3.com

You got me inspired! I made my own version with Swift and wanted to share it with my local chess club, so had to convert it into a Rails app in the end 😅 If you are interested you can try it out: e4e5nf3.com

This is a Swift app I 100% vibe coded to practice coordinates in a chess board. I have not read the code, it is a personal little app. My client has a huge app. It is my duty to leverage AI as much as possible, and I read every single patch. I'll stop when they are correct.

Incorrect patches are not a complain. AI is absolutely astonishing. Incorrect patches are a _fact_ in that code base. That is the point. You review, and it is wrong. The moment I have done 100 reviews and no tweak is needed, I'll revise the workflow.

Aaron also offers insurance on technical debt. What an eagle eye for business opportunities. Please contact him if you need some, which you will.
The purpose of a system is what it does, but only for those observing it. In the Closing Keynote of #RailsWorld 2026, @tenderlove covers Ractors, ZJIT, and how AI agents chained a RubyGems.org caching bug into a Rube Goldberg attack. Aaron's an AI enthusiast, but his takeaway is clear: your compiler promised you the as-if rule, and your AI hasn't. So keep reading your code. I'm honored and humbled to join the Rails core team. I'll be focusing on security and improvements to Active Storage and Action Text. Please reach out if you have thoughts on what would make your work easier.

Today is a big day for Herb! It's built into Rails 8.2 by default for all HTML+ERB views. My talk at #RailsWorld in Austin today answered three questions: What is Herb? What ships in Rails 8.2? And what does this enable? Herb v0.11 and ReActionView v0.6 released alongside it.

I have had also the feeling that some people overcomplicate things. Problem is, we are not AI experts, it is all guessing, experiencing, and cargo culting. If this shit is as good as it is, we should KISS it all.
I’ve spoken to over 50 people 1:1 over the last several months to better understand how they code with AI. It’s an absolute mess. Here are the top 8 mistakes I see. 0:00 - Intro 1:19 - Mistake 1: Talking to 2026 models like they’re 2025 models 2:43 - Mistake 2: Devising funky metaphorical factories to orchestrate your agents 3:59 - Mistake 3: Treating context as sacred 6:02 - Mistake 4: Treating previous conversations as sacred 7:59 - Mistake 5: Having a todo list 10:00 - Mistake 6: Using funky tools 13:47 - Mistake 7: Stressing over code quality 24:27 - Mistake 8: Using branches and worktrees

Anecdote from my father. He was playing billiards with a friend, and a guy wanted to play chess with him. "Sorry, I would be glad to but have to go after this game". The guy insisted, so he was: "OK, pick a board!" He played blind while playing billiards and, of course, won!
