Hey @traumadoctors fellowship directors…in 2 years please keep an eye out for Dr. Margot Debot - currently one of @CUDeptSurg residents in the lab. And @JuliaColemanMD - why haven’t you convinced her to be on Twitter?🧐😊 #COT2022

This piece was difficult but also cathartic to write. I’m grateful that it could be shared in the @NEJM for others to read.
I did not get to hold you for the first 3 weeks of your life. I knew this would happen. I was the surgeon, and I was prepared. But slowly, over those first weeks, my surgical armor shifted, slipped, cracked, as you gradually opened your eyes and claimed me as your own.

Why has the United States handled this pandemic so badly? The Editors note that although we came into this crisis with enormous advantages, our current political leaders have demonstrated that they are dangerously incompetent.

To all following the @JVascSurg "professionalism" paper and #MedBikini saga, my proposal for a "New Professionalism" that recognizes humans as humans, and fights the increasing corporatization of physicians and weaponization of "professionalism". @MdSlutty @TomVargheseJr

So here’s the thing #MedTwitter. That @JVascSurg article was pretty bad, but y’all need to lay off the trainees involved - especially the medical student. The cyber bullying must stop. Like in the OR, the attending is responsible. The trainee is there to learn. Pls stop. – at Bismarck, ND

I’m so frustrated by this idea that “those folks that have concerns...they can stay home.” There is no amount of “staying home” I can do to protect my child from the biggest danger that he faces from COVID-19. A thread...

1/ Reflections on #FathersDay One day as I was preparing to discharge this twenty-ish year-old gentleman from the hospital, he told me he was having a baby soon: Him: "You got kids, Dr. Manning?" Me: "Yep. Two sons." Him: "They grown? Like my age?" Me: "Nah. 11 and 13.”

I’ll tell you a story. When I was in residency a 200+ pound man was brought into the emergency department for agitation. He was uncuffed by NYPD and released into a room with sliding glass doors. He was sweating, shouting, punching walls, and punching himself. 1/
