Recently, a panelist / friend at a vendor conference dismissed my claim that 75% of student system implementations fail, calling it “crap.” That must mean there’s compelling (and verifiable) data to refute my claims & to justify that criticism. So, bring your success stories.

Why do 75% of million-dollar system projects fail in higher ed? Because they are approached as IT projects rather than true campus transformation efforts. Think of technology as the tool and transformation as the craftsmanship. Many master the tool but not the craftsmanship.

Implementation consulting and campus transformation consulting are as different as apples and oranges. Is not knowing the difference costing your campus millions?

Shared services means shared compromise. Campuses continue to fail as they don’t understand the compromise they have to make to benefit from shared services. Shared services is not a tech initiative; it’s a campus transformation project with leaders willing to transform.

Want a very simple strategy to create an advantage over other campuses? Focus your staff's time, energy, and technology funding investments on improving the student lifecycle while other campus leaders invest in non-student-related initiatives. Think wisely. Lead wisely.

Stop allocating majority of your funds to a long, drawn out lift & shift implementation. Invest a fraction of that in a campus-wide transformation strategy that will reduce your sis implementation budget by 20-30% . More importantly, bring true ROI. Spend wisely. Choose wisely!

Too often campus leaders cut corners on a student implementation to meet an arbitrary budget, which often results in spending 10x what was thought would be saved, & more importantly, could set the campus back 10 years of positive forward momentum. Think wisely. Choose wisely!

When you're told a student transformation starts with hr & fin. Beware that you are likely part of the software sales process, and not a strategic advisory session on what’s truly best for your institution. Think wisely, Choose wisely.

Higher Ed has proven that following “trends reports” is more likely to point your campus success trend line in a direction others will wish they didn’t follow. Listen wisely, choose wisely.
