But the moment an exchange freezes your account, suddenly everyone remembers Satoshi, financial freedom, decentralization, and censorship resistance.
⚠️ Crypto was built to give us financial freedom. So why are centralized exchanges starting to feel like traditional banks?
A crypto user has shared a disturbing experience.
He withdrew 2,690 USDT from @MEXC to @OKXmena via the Aptos network. The deposit was marked as completed, yet shortly afterward, OKX temporarily restricted his account for 60 days.
His support team reportedly provided only generic explanations about security issues.
The screenshots speak for themselves.
Now, let's be clear: exchanges have every right to comply with AML regulations and protect their platforms. But when legitimate crypto transfers can trigger prolonged account restrictions, users deserve more than vague explanations.
This raises a serious question:
Are we slowly rebuilding the same financial system that Bitcoin was created to challenge?
Satoshi Nakamoto envisioned a decentralized financial system. A system where people could control their own money without relying on centralized gatekeepers.
But today, as exchanges tighten compliance and expand their control over user funds, that vision seems to be fading.
I've been in crypto for years. What attracted me was its permissionless, decentralized, and somewhat wild nature.
I understand regulation. I understand security.
But I don't want crypto to become TradFi with a blockchain logo.
Maybe I'm too pessimistic.
Or maybe we're witnessing the gradual loss of what made crypto special in the first place.
