The Toronto area is currently averaging 2 people killed and 5 people seriously or critically injured *every week* by drivers in vehicles. There have been 0 gun related deaths in that time. Anyone *actually* concerned about safety in Toronto should be looking at road safety.

notice how the only thing standing in the way of these guys getting what they want is the normal functioning lives of like every single person on the planet
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources “a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

One of the most brutal scenes in human history has been leaked. The Israeli military changing the landscape of Gaza in Rafah and removing the traces of genocide. A video that the world must never forget.

i had a 2 hour phone call a week before this with a producer, and named dozens of bars and restos for them to investigate - we were as surprised as anyone to end up at the poutine place the 'torontoness' of this was forced on both sides...he just wanted to talk about records
Throughout the episode, you can kind of sense that Anthony Bourdain is wrestling with this underlying question of, "What exactly is Toronto?", it keeps coming up in the subtext, or even directly throughout the episode. There's even a moment where it seems like he kind of stares off into the distance wondering why he can't get an answer or figure it out.

RIP Brooklyn Vegan. Absolutely bewildering. Thinking of all the great people there and the unparalleled music coverage they’ve done over the years. Utterly unceremonious and moronic actions by Veeps.

Up until ~10 years ago, most boreal forest lightening strikes and human ignitions fell on damp ground, often damp from recent snow melt. Climate change has transformed this, turning the northern half of North America into a giant tinder box, where even the soil carbon can burn.
For those wondering why it's so hard to control remote wildfires in Canada, here are two maps which might help illustrate the problem. Let's call them: A) Where the people are; and B) Where the trees are.

Residents of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation watched their home burn to the ground as they had to evacuate by boat due to a rapidly approaching wildfire. At least four other communities in the region have also been evacuated due to wildfires. aptnnews.ca/?p=291434
