🎓 More than 90% of Socorro ISD high school students participate in Career and Technical Education programs. CTE provides students with hands-on learning designed to prepare them for jobs after graduation. Without a rate increase, some of these programs could be cut. 👩‍🏫 25 students to 1 teacher. That’s Socorro ISD’s current student-teacher ratio for kindergarten through fifth grade, while Pre-K is 22-to-1. The state requires a 22-to-1 ratio for Pre-K through fourth grade. Teacher availability directly impacts classroom ratios and class sizes. Socorro ISD estimates approximately 100 positions would need to be filled to bring classroom sizes down to TEA standards. Proposition A includes $9 million to hire teachers to reduce class sizes.
