Value of women in sports, and the responsibilities of internet search engines. Google summary for Phil Tufnell: Cricketer Matt Dawson: Rugby union player Sue Barker: British former television presenter Barker is a multiple WTA title and Grand Slam winner

Is this gender bias in automated descriptions or is it based on what the subject is most well known for? And if it is the latter, is there not a responsibility to adjust descriptors? After all, Barker is presumably a sports television presenter because of her sporting career.

I'm sure there may be other reasons, it's just interesting
I'm not here often because I'm on the CModS account instead but this match and what it represents was brilliant and I'm so glad they're not stopping. I played for the Y6 girl's team when I was in Y5 because I loved it and was good enough. At secondary, I couldn't play any more.
"We see this as only the beginning." An open letter from our #Lionesses...
Hey gender and identity people; who am I looking for if I want an inbetween of Butler's performativity and an essentialist viewpoint? Who argues that the self is the product of both performance and an inner, essential selfhood/"core doer behind the deed"? #AcademicChatter

Although I've had to tweet about the #REF2021 results over on the department's twitter page, take a look at this depressing statistic

Applicable to so many situations
It's easy to want to fill an awkward silence. Often, however, a pause in conversation is time people need to think. When conducting research, and maybe just in normal conversations, try to trust the questions that you ask and avoid filling the silence after asking a question.

Tweeting this again because seeing posts/tweets that don’t mention disability pay gap. Wonder why disability is frequently forgotten?
Some summaries of @ucu action only mention gender & ethnicity in relation to pay gaps but just a reminder that there’s a disability pay gap too. #WhyImStriking I’m also striking because of the dreadful affects of casualistion & workload @ULivUCU2

Hoping to get more replies on this idea today! #uss #UCUstrike
Genuine question as I don't know the specific pension ts and cs; is there a reason a collective withdrawal from the USS pension scheme wouldn't work? I know it might mean a drop in contributions for a bit but it would hit USS directly? @ucu @UcuYork #USSmess #UCUstrike

I'd absolutely love to read commentary from informed folk on this question. (The short answer would appear to be "because you immediately lose the employers' contribution". But USS governance has gone so far rogue that I would not like to discount alternatives out of hand.)

My genuine question (to which there is probably an obvious answer I haven’t thought of) is why can’t UCU take this to the courts? I don’t think raising funds would be impossible.

Thread investigating threat of collective withdrawal from #USS pension scheme, will be updated as I get time. From what I can see, if members fully withdraw, they lose the below for the time they are unenrolled. Will invesitgate and add "enhancements" soon! #UCUstrike @ucu
There may be ways around this, such as use of the Enhanced Opt-Out mechanism. Please do look into this further, by all means!

I'm not a pensions expert. From what I can see from the #USS website, these "enhancements" are "possible" ill health income cover and life cover based on salary rather than the pension amount. Other than that you get referred back to the information in the previous tweet! #UCU
