As an employee of CSHL, I reject Watson’s views as racist, repugnant, and contrary to everything that we know about the science of genetics.
Got an early look at the new PBS documentary on Jim Watson, out tomorrow. It is infuriating and sad to see him reaffirm his infamous view — unsupported by any genetic evidence — that black people are intrinsically less intelligent than others. nytimes.com/2019/01/01/scien…

Science has chosen single-cell analyses of gene activity through time as its #BOTY18, honoring methods that together are enabling researchers to determine, at the individual cell level, which genes are turned on and off as an early embryo develops. vis.sciencemag.org/breakthro…

- a Postdoc (chromosomes, transcription, the sky and my startup funds are the limits)

DeepMind beat 98 other teams to correctly fold 25 of 43 structures. Next team only folded 3 of 43. Excited to see advances in the protein folding problem and curious to see where this technology leads!
We knew this had to be coming, but still...whoa. Protein structure prediction using machine learning.
“AlphaFold [predicted] the most accurate structure for 25 out of 43 proteins, compared with 3 out of 43 for the second placed team in the same category.”
