In aviation, wet lease and dry lease are two ways an airline can lease an aircraft from another company.
Wet Lease (ACMI)
A wet lease means the aircraft comes with:
* A — Aircraft
* C — Crew
* M — Maintenance
* I — Insurance
The leasing airline essentially provides the aircraft and operates it on behalf of the airline that needs capacity.
Example:
Airline A needs an extra Boeing 777 for six months. It leases a Boeing 777 from Airline B, including Airline B’s pilots and cabin crew, maintenance and insurance. Airline A pays Airline B for the service.
Why airlines use wet leases:
* To quickly add capacity
* When they don’t have enough aircraft or crew
* During periods of unusually high demand
* When an aircraft is undergoing maintenance
* To launch a new route before acquiring its own aircraft
A wet lease is usually short- to medium-term.
Dry Lease
A dry lease is essentially the aircraft only.
The airline leasing the aircraft must provide:
* Its own pilots
* Its own cabin crew
* Maintenance arrangements
* Insurance
* Operational management
Example:
Airline A leases a Boeing 737 from a leasing company for five years. Airline A provides the pilots, crew, maintenance and insurance and operates the aircraft under its own Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
Dry leases are generally longer-term, often several years.

I flew Air Peace with my friends and family to attend my mother's 90th birthday, and for an 8:30 AM flight, they left the jetway at exactly 8:30 AM. Their precision timing was impressive. The plane was immaculate. And the service was excellent.
But I have an issue. The crew was foreign. I spoke to them, and they were Spanish. I have nothing against them. They were the definition of professionalism.
But why would a Nigerian carrier, flying the Nigerian flag, have a foreign crew? I find it hard to believe that there are no competent Nigerians to fly and crew Air Peace's flights.
We cannot export badly needed jobs by bringing in Europeans to do a job in Nigeria that Nigerians are eminently qualified for.
Other than that, my experience on Air Peace was superb, and if they engage an all-Nigerian crew, I will not only fly them as often as I can, but I will also recommend and promote Air Peace.

Air Peace Expands Fleet with Arrival of Another Boeing 737-800 NG
West Africa’s and Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has further strengthened its growing fleet with the arrival of another Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft, reinforcing the carrier’s commitment to operational efficiency, route expansion, and improved passenger experience.
The newly acquired aircraft, registered 5N-CGD, arrived yesterday, marking yet another milestone in the airline’s steady fleet modernization and expansion drive. The addition increases Air Peace’s operational capacity and underscores the airline’s determination to provide more reliable, seamless, and comfortable air travel services across its domestic, regional, and international network.
With a fleet that now stands at over 30 aircraft made up of Boeing 777s, Boeing 737s, Embraer jets, Dornier aircraft, and other modern equipment, Air Peace remains the largest airline in West Africa by fleet size and route network. The airline continues to dominate the Nigerian aviation landscape while steadily expanding its footprint beyond the continent.
The arrival of the Boeing 737-800 NG is expected to significantly boost flight availability, improve schedule reliability, and support the airline’s growing passenger demand. Aviation experts note that the aircraft type is globally respected for its efficiency, passenger comfort, and strong operational performance.
For passengers, the fleet expansion translates into more seamless travel experiences, better connectivity, fewer disruptions, and increased scheduling flexibility. It also strengthens Air Peace’s ability to deploy backup aircraft more effectively during operational adjustments, ensuring improved on-time performance and customer satisfaction.
The development comes at a time when the airline continues to expand its services and invest heavily in safety, manpower development, and operational excellence. Air Peace has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to giving Nigerians and other travelers world-class service comparable to international standards.
Industry observers say the continuous acquisition of additional aircraft reflects the airline’s long-term vision and confidence in the Nigerian aviation sector despite prevailing economic and operational challenges.
As Air Peace continues to grow its fleet and network, the flying public can look forward to enhanced travel convenience, expanded route options, and an even better overall flying experience.
Obasanjo Flies Air Peace to London Gatwick
Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Friday boarded an Air Peace Boeing 777-200ER flight from Lagos to London Gatwick, in another significant endorsement of Nigeria’s leading indigenous airline.
The elder statesman was warmly received at the Air Peace Premium Lounge at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, by Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Chief Allen Onyema, CON.
Welcoming the former president, Chief Onyema described it as a great privilege to host and fly the former Nigerian leader aboard Air Peace’s flagship international service to the United Kingdom.
He reiterated the airline’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and world-class air travel experiences while proudly connecting people, cultures, and destinations across Nigeria and beyond.
Chief Onyema later personally accompanied President Obasanjo to the aircraft before departure for London Gatwick.
The visit and flight further underscore the growing confidence in Air Peace’s international operations and its expanding role in projecting Nigerian excellence on the global aviation stage.
Indeed, the pictures tell the whole story.
Bird Strike, Not Negligence: Putting the Air Peace Gatwick–Lagos Incident in Proper Perspective
A video shared by Funke Akindele has been circulating widely online, drawing attention to the cancellation of an Air Peace flight from London Gatwick Airport to Lagos on Friday, May 1, 2026, reportedly due to a bird strike.
While the frustration expressed by affected passengers is entirely understandable, it is important to clarify a critical point: once a bird strike occurs, the aircraft must be grounded until comprehensive safety inspections are completed. This is not optional - it is a strict requirement under global aviation safety regulations.
Bird strikes are a well-documented and unavoidable risk in aviation worldwide. When they happen, even if damage is not immediately visible, engineers must inspect key components such as engines, fuselage, and control surfaces. In some cases, parts must be repaired or replaced before the aircraft can be cleared for operation. These procedures exist to protect lives and cannot be bypassed for convenience.
Available accounts indicate that the flight captain communicated directly with passengers, explaining the situation and outlining mitigation efforts. These reportedly included providing hotel accommodation and arranging alternative travel options—such as rerouting some passengers to Abuja the same night, with onward connections to Lagos at no extra cost.
In today’s digital environment, incidents like this are quickly recorded and shared, often without full context. While public reaction is natural, it is essential that commentary reflects the complete picture. This was a force majeure event - an unforeseen and uncontrollable occurrence - not an act of negligence.
Airlines are bound by safety-first principles. No responsible carrier can, or should, compromise on these standards. While disruptions are inconvenient, they are sometimes the necessary price of ensuring that every flight operates safely.
A balanced understanding of such incidents helps prevent misinformation and maintains trust in aviation systems that prioritize passenger safety above all else.
Air Peace, this is unacceptable.
Passengers (including elderly people) have been stranded since 6:30AM at London Gatwick Airport with no proper communication.
After hours of delay, we were told there was a bird strike and promised a hotel. Hours later, people are still sitting at baggage claim hungry, exhausted, and without their bags.
Elderly passengers are struggling. Families are tired. No clear updates. No support.
Release passengers’ luggage immediately and provide the hotel you promised. Do something NOW.

This is a very cheap one meant to trend. It should take the rear of posts worthy of a response. Did you find the answer? Rear.
“Fragile unity” and we are operating on same faith ticket and you didn’t see this as threatening our fragile unity? Hypocrisy! Most of the appointments are of one ethnic group. Fragile unity indeed!
So, there is no hiding place for the opposition, just like there is no hiding place for the ruling party. Let the neck-pressing continue without letup:
The ADC is scared to clearly ZONE its Presidential ticket, like the other major parties (PDP and APC) have done, because the party belongs to one man called Atiku Abubakar @atiku. It is the EXACT corner that Atiku pushed PDP to in 2023 that ADC now finds itself - the inability to zone its Presidential ticket. In a highly sensitive country like Nigeria, any pan-Nigerian Party MUST be clear as to zoning. The APC Governors did so in 2023 and triumphed. The PDP is still reeling from that disastrous decision in 2023.
ATIKU wants to camouflage with Peter Obi and surreptitiously secure his votes and become President on a flawed template that will damage our fragile unity as a nation. And Peter Obi is supporting this contraption for selfish reasons - throwing the entire country under the bus for a mess of pottage called a VP ticket. He will soon learn in a hard way.
Commiserations to the naive Obi supporters who are being led into a dead end by wily, old war horses in politics. They will all come back to thank us later after the disaster to which they are all heading.
You guys just post these cheap posts to drive traffic. Only 2 eggs were broken, fried, and eaten. Waste of my time telling you you had 4 left. Very cheap question.

@renoomokri This was Reno Omokri years back when he struggled to get a selfie with his oga His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi.
Today as the chameleon and anywhere Belle face politician Reno is, he is all over social media space castigating the same man he once praised.
He has a style of telling folklore through his music that people nicknamed some stories told by people as “Akuko Mike Ejeagha.
Great folklorist.
Nostalgic.
This guy does not know what he has just done.
I have been playing the music since morning.
But my favourite of Mike Ejeagha's numbers is "Omekagu" because it reminds me of my youth.
I first listened to it as a small boy at Adazi-Nnukwu when late Dan Enukora opened his house.
Akuko Mike Ejeagha: Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo
BrainJotter has just resurrected Gentleman Mike Ejeagha's classic music.
I am loving this trending Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo Dance vibes.
It is sweeping across the globe.
Just imagine how this could suddenly become the trending thing.
Happy survival to all key players whose conduct collectively helped quell an illegal attempt to remove Gov. Chris Ngige from office on July 10, 2003. Thank you, President Bola Tinubu for what you did for us as Governor, Lagos. You’re the last man standing.
Today, July 10, 2024 makes it 21 years the first illegal attempt was made by non-state actors to remove a sitting governor in Nigeria. Gov. Chris Ngige survived the abduction and has continued to ride on the successful quelling of that illegality.
There’s sense in this.
It is reported that the ring leader of the kidnappers killed by the police in Mushin, Lagos, was jailbroken from Owerri prison during the April 5, 2021, prison break pulled off by the Eastern Security Network, the armed wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra. On that day, Over 1,800 Inmates were released by ESN.
The activities of IPOB and ESN do not only affect the Southeast. They affect other zones. Only God knows how many people these kidnappers have killed, maimed and extorted before officers and men of the Lagos State Police Command gunned them down as they were engaged in the act of kidnapping.
I remember that some people, most notably Oby Ezekwesili, accused Governor Jide Sanwoolu of ethnic bias when he ordered the arrest of the Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate, Lagos, Fredrick Nwajagu, over his threat to invite IPOB to Lagos to protect specific persons. And now, this.
Regional insecurity issues do not stay in only the regions where they emanate, which is why the rest of the country must not be onlookers. Boko Haram attacked Lagos, and bombed Apapa on June 25, 2014. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) bombed Atlas Cove, Lagos, on July 13, 2009. Even the most notorious kidnapper ever in the history of Lagos, Evans, whose real name is Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, was not from Lagos. And in Rivers, two of the Owerri escapees freed by IPOB were arrested for kidnapping a female lawyer in Port Harcourt. Please fact-check me.
So, when some people say that other Nigerians should mind their business and that IPOB and ESN are only a Southeast affair, this incident proves them wrong. It affects all of us, and something must be done before it destroys all of us.

BA and Virgin which charge exorbitant fares and your corrupt civil servants who aid and abet them are grateful to you and your ilk. Any wonder Nigeria is not moving forward.
