Joe Mazzulla on reports of the Celtics vibes being high at training camp "Every team you lead is the most together team right now. Because we haven't traveled. No one's gotten benched. No one's been on a losing streak. No one's gotten blamed in the media. No one's had to go stand in the corner for 10 minutes and not get the ball. So, you learn those things as the season goes on, and you just learn how to work through those things together. And you can't simulate those. It just comes with time. And so, right now I would say all 30 teams feel great about themselves, and we got to wait till adversity hits. And adversity is even a strong word. There's nothing really adverse about playing in the NBA. But we got to wait until stuff doesn't go your way, and then you got to figure out who we are and how we're going to be at our best." I lived in Boston long enough to see how deeply history shapes ordinary life. You can cross the Public Garden beneath flowering trees, pass George Washington on horseback, and walk streets where reminders of the American Revolution still feel close enough to touch. The city rewards walking. Brick sidewalks carry you through Beacon Hill, past weathered churches, old burial grounds, independent bookshops, and houses built before the United States existed. Across the Charles, students and scientists work on ideas that may shape the next century. Boston also makes you earn each season. Winter is long and severe, which gives the first warm afternoon in the Public Garden a special force. People fill the lawns, the Swan Boats return to the lagoon, and magnolias and cherry trees bring color back to the city. What stayed with me most was Boston’s sense of continuity. The city treats its libraries, universities, parks, churches, and historic streets as part of a living inheritance. Its past remains present in the places people use every day. Having lived there, I came to understand why Boston inspires such loyalty. It gives you the rare feeling that education, civic memory, and beauty still belong at the center of public life. And if all that still leaves you unconvinced, spend a summer evening at Fenway Park or a fall Sunday cheering for the Patriots.
Nearly 400 years later, Boston’s streets still look like they were designed to confuse anyone who wasn’t born there.
