Python is one of the most fundamental tools in one's journey in data science and machine learning. Yet this is a rare great course that focussed on scientific python fundamentals while teaching with projects that are fun and engaging. corise.com/course/python-for…

It's TPU time! :) A single TPUv4 pod contains 4096 chips, with each having 10x bandwidth at scale. 1 exaflop per second. Per second. #GoogleIO

Did you catch today's NeurIPS presentation about the amazing new JAX on Cloud TPU experience? One more thing 😉 @KenoFischer and the Julia team are bringing this great TPU experience to @JuliaLanguage, and we're incredibly excited to make Cloud TPUs even more useful and usable!
You may remember this slide from my #JuliaLang TPU talk at JuliaCon 2019 - I said "This is where all the pain in using TPUs is". Today at NeurIPS, Google announced a new version of the TPU stack that completely eliminates the issue. TPUs about to become infinitely more useful!!!

JAX on Cloud TPUs is getting a big upgrade! Come to our NeurIPS demo Tue. Dec. 8 at 11AM PT/19 GMT to see it in action, plus catch a sneak peek of a new Flax-based library for language research on TPU pods. Link: neurips.cc/ExpoConferences/2… (neurips.cc/Register2 is still open!)

The bfloat16 format was something we identified and started using during the early days of TensorFlow and also in its previous system, DistBelief. The format was basically the IEEE fp32 format with 16 bits of mantissa removed.

Cloud TPU Pods accelerate the pace of research. Using the latest versions of @TensorFlow , Google @GoogleBrain researcher and TFEngineers are able to reduce BERT pretraining time from 3 days down to 76 minutes using a new optimizer. Check out the details: arxiv.org/abs/1904.00962

Beam audio directly to the ears via laser & the photoacoustic effect, without anyone else around hearing audio. Works at 2.5 meters & 60 dB. osapublishing.org/ol/abstrac… Fun Idea: couple this with head-tracking to create invisible headphones (Laser is at eye-safe power level)

#CloudTPUs + @TensorFlow are the fastest platform for ML. On the popular (and now quite silly) ResNet-50 ImageNet benchmark, one TPUv3 Pod finishes in 2.2 minutes at full accuracy (76.3% top-1)! Approx 2x faster than extremely large GPU clusters. Details: arxiv.org/abs/1811.06992

I'm very happy to see the @NipsConference board work out a great solution that keeps the full name of the conference intact but to use NeurIPS rather than NIPS (which has multiple other inappropriate connotations and was sometimes used for crude jokes at the conference). Yay!
