Funnel - my new iPhone app for quick capture
In the early 2000s, I made a significant effort to improve my ability to manage my time, projects, and other complexities in life. One of the things I learned about is the importance of quickly capturing ideas. This concept of quick capture is now deeply embedded in my thinking. (Thanks @gtdguy).
The idea is simple. As you have ideas or things you need to do, you quickly write them down before you lose them. You must capture them quickly. It doesn't mean that you need to do those things at that moment of thought, but you've captured the idea, the thought, or the task, and you can process it later, assured you won't forget it: it is written down!
In those early years, I used a piece of paper and would make a jotted note, and that paper served as my reminder. But as things moved heavily into the digital age, we needed a digital equivalent. Recently, a new application for the iPhone was released that is designed for quick capture with speed and flexibility at the core of its design.
It's named Funnel and made by the amazing @DharamKapila.
apps.apple.com/us/app/funnel…
Funnel supports quickly capturing those ideas, thoughts, and tasks into a number of applications, such as Apple Reminders, Things, Dev and Think, and, of course, Obsidian.
Funnel supports customization to better tailor the quick capture for each of these applications. Funnel also allows you to have multiple destinations defined for quick capture. So some things you might want to capture to Apple Reminders, like tasks, whereas others you might want to capture as ideas and thoughts to Obsidian or some other application.
Funnel also supports quick capturing of photos, scanning a photo that has text on it into text along with other media types.
The advantage of Funnel is speed.
You have the thought: you open the app, type it, tap the place where you want to send it to, and it's saved. And then, you can process it later when you have more time.
Please check out my video, in which I do a walkthrough of the features of Funnel to give you an idea of how it can be used.
It's definitely worth installing and trying.

We're delighted to announce that our Performance Refactor has finally shipped today 🚀
The Reader mobile/web apps should now be 2x to 100x faster
across basically every metric (interaction speed, memory usage, loading times, etc)
Just released a new video that provides a glimpse of how I have been using @Heptabase for research. Check it out if you're interested: tinyurl.com/49w9jfy7

If you open our in-app browsing tool using the split panel, you can now drag text from a web page onto the whiteboard to create new text elements.
NEW: drag text directly from webpages into Heptabase. Quick walkthrough of that and other new features here: youtu.be/fFG9RmMigVo

Obsidian --> Heptabase: I decided a few weeks ago to try out @Heptabase. Doing so made me confront two problems I was having with @obsdmd (which I still love). Here's a piece I just wrote about this subject: fpnotes.io/im-trying-out-hep…
I haven't posted a video in a while (been out of the country), so I decided to post a short article instead.

Here's the first video in the series of videos about Obsidian that I plan on releasing in the coming weeks: youtu.be/vLV4EDBtuas @obsdmd @logseq
It's been a few weeks since I've posted a video, so I just now released a brief "channel update" video. Those interested in @obsdmd might want to take note.

My morning routine includes 20 minutes of staring into the computer screen wondering why on Earth I didn't write a to-do list last night.

Someone asked me to make a video about the process of turning notes about a text into an "idea card" (aka permanent note, evergreen note, zettel, etc.). Just released the video a few minutes ago: bit.ly/3VCfSbX

I'm excited to share that we have open-sourced the Obsidian Canvas file format under MIT license!
Just like Markdown files it means that your .canvas files can be stored locally and interoperate with other tools that may use the format.
Just released Video #8 in my series on building an old-school (analog) Zettelkasten. #zettelkasten #antinet

This video is on why I think it's important to create Folgezettel, something most practitioners of what gets called "THE Zettelkasten method" mistakenly think there is no good reason to do now that we have apps like @Obsidian, @Logseq, etc.
