It was officially a record-breaking day! Many metro area records fell with the afternoon heat pushing temperatures into the low 90s.
Portland has now seen its second earliest 90-degree day on record. April 30, 1998 remains in the earliest spot.
Cooler temps coming tomorrow!

Welcome to the weekend! We're expecting all sunshine Sat, increasing clouds Sun, plus the gusty east wind (which picked up for the metro area today!) should calm back down.
Frosty mornings w/ low temps likely around or below freezing thru Sun. Calmer areas will be colder.

Dry streak incoming! We're in for dry, abnormally warm days this week. An 8-day dry streak is possible, which is fairly rare in January! That's only happened 5 other times (at PDX). Our longest-ever dry spell happened just last year- 18 straight days with no measurable rain!
Very weak rain chances for PDX through Sunday morning, then dry (and sunny) weather is on tap Tuesday through MLK weekend! The North Coast will likely continue to see a few showers through Monday morning as the main bullseye for rain remains in NW WA.

And theeere’s the rain! Heavier band moving through metro area now. Plan on steady rain for a couple hours.

Here's the plan for the next 3 days! The beautiful, dry weather will take us through New Year's Eve (Wednesday). Both low and high temps hover around average, and there are daily chances for morning fog or frost.

The heaviest rainfall will happen overnight and early tomorrow morning! Tuesday will be a very wet day, but not very gusty through the daytime hours.
Despite the much lighter showers on Wednesday, it'll still be a First Alert Weather Day for the ongoing flood and landslide risk.
Our newest podcast ep is out! @major_weather, @MarkNelsenWx & @CamilaOrtiTV discuss the very wet (but very warm!) forecast ahead.

Mainly dry the next five days- just a few sprinkles on Tuesday and possibly Thursday night. Models are pointing to less than a quarter inch of rain in Portland and to the south through next weekend!
It'll be a drier end to the holiday weekend! That'll mean easy travel home around the PNW. There's just a slight shower chance Saturday (in the afternoon and evening) but we're likely staying dry in Portland. Lots of sunshine on tap for Sunday!

Light rain returns tomorrow, but totals will be very light (likely around a tenth of an inch through the entire day Sunday). It appears the first batch of rain will arrive by late morning for the west metro area and stick around through the afternoon hours.
#ICYMI: Our newest podcast is out, and it's all about the winters of yesteryear! @MarkNelsenWx and @CamilaOrtiTV talk about the snow and ice storms that shut metro areas down- the "big ones!" If you love weather history, this one's for you!

We've seen mostly mild overnight lows this month- currently running 3.5 degrees warmer than normal at PDX! By now (on average), more rural lowland spots like Hillsboro would've gotten their first frost, but it hasn't happened yet. Watching next week...

Chance to view the Northern Lights tonight!🌌
NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a G4 (Severe) Geomagnetic Storm Watch tonight + Wednesday.
Unfortunately, cloudy skies will limit our chances of viewing the aurora tonight in Oregon and Washington.
Mainly cloudy and dry weather expected in the Portland metro area for the next three days, with rain arriving late on Wednesday. That east wind should turn calm overnight, too!

It's breezy out there, especially east side! Gusts have been consistently above 50 MPH at Vista House! Gusts should peak late tonight and then gradually start to decrease throughout the day tomorrow.
Only a few showers are left between now and a stretch of dry days! Most models are indicating around a tenth of an inch of additional rain is possible, with showers winding down by Friday afternoon.
We've got a dry weekend ahead! Just thin, high clouds and a gusty east wind.

WET work week ahead! Your only solid dry pockets are going to be during the daylight hours on Tuesday, and possibly second half of the day Friday. Enjoy the rain! 🌧️
