For the record, the president of the United States is now simultaneously claiming that he has won the war, is currently winning the war, needs help to win the war, and needs no help to win the war. All to destroy the nuclear program he claims to have already destroyed last year.

One thing I find weirdly counterintuitive about astronomy: stars are impossibly lonely, but galaxies are practically neighbours.
If the Sun were a basketball in London, the nearest star would be in Delhi.
If the Milky Way were a dinner plate, Andromeda would be across the room.
I'm shutting up shop on here to head to the other place 💙🌤️ same old username.
Take care and be nice.

At a time of unprecedented nuclear risk, in January @realDonaldTrump🇺🇸 will gain control of the US nuclear arsenal. There are no right hands for the wrong weapons. We banned nuclear weapons in 2017 and won’t stop until we’ve eliminated them.

Opinion | Terrible things will now happen. There’s no point dressing it up, or pretending it’ll be better than it is. We are in serious trouble. We are in a moment of acute danger, the likes of which we’ve never really seen before

Halloween on South Uist, 1932 looked pretty terrifying. Children made homemade costumes from sheepskins, haystack wigs, scraped-out skulls and sheep ears! One boy spent an entire day peeling the skin from a sheep skull to make his mask!

Will have a succulent Chinese meal in tribute tonight. What a perfect little fragment of human folly this is. Memorialised in Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, too …

Alarmed by what I'm seeing in the US. I was once pretty confident Biden would win. I'm now pretty confident of the opposite. The consequences are too terrible to contemplate. Most importantly: Putin triumphant in Ukraine. And then the horror of what follows from that fact.
