New post: quantifying Gauss-Seidel's loop-carried dependency with OSACA, and a loop-unrolling fix that cuts it from 12 to 2 cycles/element. Three compiler experiments included to isolate the effect from vectorization.

It's been a while ! I've just publish a new post: 𝐆𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐬-𝐒𝐞𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐛𝐢. 𝐎𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐭?
While keeping a high level p.o.v., I try to explain why Jacobi can be faster than Gauss-Seidel despite what the math says.

Want to run your @fortranlang #Fortran code on GPUs but don't want to add external APIs or directives?
Check out our new paper on using Fortran's "do concurrent" to run on NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel GPUs!

Adding @OpenMP_ARB data movement directives can help with efficiency (on Intel GPUs) and for some GPUs are required (AMD consumer GPUs), but for many cases, "Fortran-only" works great - even across multiple multi-GPU nodes!

@predsci is nominated for the "Best Use of HPC in Physical Sciences" for our 3-week continually running model of the solar corona to predict the 2024 total solar eclipse (predsci.com/eclipse2024). The codes needed for this simulation used @fortranlang standard parallelism, @OpenACCorg, and @OpenMP_ARB on @NVIDIAHPCDev GPUs, as well as MPI over hundreds of CPU compute nodes at @NASA_NAS.
