Some fun building an MCP server to expose tools for querying any search system, judge candidate results and calculate relevancy metrics like NDCG and ERR: youtube.com/watch?v=vLhpnman… It inferred tools to call and how to build queries #search #relevancy #evaluation #metrics #mcp

Had a blast chatting with @nicolaygerold and Stuart Cam about Search Systems on How AI is Built podcast: youtu.be/Uvx2v2sK7MI Search is such a vast topic and there's always more to learn and explore, but hopefully we packed in enough insights to spark ideas and curiosity!

Friends, please help #SaveKarenGordon, my much-loved sister whose life is at risk due to failures by the #NHS to treat her and adapt to her underlying condition. We're desperate! Please help us by signing this petition and sharing it as widely as possible. chng.it/MtYcbN4s

CRAP practices for short?
"Best practice" is such a weasely phrase in software engineering—what if they're not "best"? What if they're not even good? In practice, it means "popular" more than anything. Maybe we should start calling them "Commonly Recommend and Popular Practices" instead...

Elasticsearch's upgrade to Lucene 9 reduced disk usage of the index of the `message` field (StardardAnalyzer, indexOptions=DOCS) by almost 15% (and overall ~3.5%) on the applications logs dataset we use for nightly benchmarks thanks to the move from FOR to PFOR for postings.

I'm the author of the best-selling book System Design Interview-An Insider’s Guide. 11 days ago, two fraudsters hijacked the "Buy Now" button on Amazon, fulfilling all orders with a different book. I'm helpless to do anything. A sad story on self-publishing: a thread.

After an incredible six years, today is my last day at @elastic . It has been an amazing experience and I have been fortunate enough to work with many exceptionally smart and talented people from which I have learnt a great deal, and fostered great friendships :) Onwards!
